Help Plz!

Hi i am running on a PIII 850 Mhz
GeForce2MX
512 MB pc 100 ram
Win2000 Pro
Sound Blaster Live
OpenGL and using steam id
My prob is that whenever i join ANY ns server my ping skyrockets from 100-500 meanwhile everyone elses ping stays low around 40 etc. i am running on a cable line of 9000/1000 so dont think its my connection and with any other game i.e. cs hl i get excellent ping. however interestingly my ping seems to skyrocket wenever my fps gets low mainly. Anyone think they can help me ?

One thing that will GREATLY help, is to first, terminate any programs you are running besides steam, that you arent using. An easy way to find some, is ony our task bar.

If you want to clear MORE, Ctrl Alt Del it up, and go to Processes.
End Process some of those (You might even find some running virus's there too, You should check that every week, just incase)

If it happens constantly, it's probably a bad rate / updaterate setting.

If it happens only near players, it's a graphics issue.
