<div class="IPBDescription">Surpluss PC's FTW.</div> Well, I do a lot of computer work at my school. That is to say, I plug in teachers's computers when they say they think they cought a virus <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Anyway, My schools tech guy is letting people like myself who do a lot with "fixing" computers around the school, take home surpluss PC parts <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
We get batches of new Dells every year and we a crap load of Spare PS's laying around. He's letting us salvage whatever we can carry away. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I'd say a few 30 gig HD's and some ram (128 meg sticks) would go together nicley with the bits and peices I have laying around (533 mhz Celeron and mobo and case. Oh, I should also grab a CD drive...
It'll make a nice little toy for me to play with. Oh, also a crap load of 17 inch monitors
And best of all, FREE!!! Maybey I can get some of those 900 mhz Pentium 3's too and throw together a whole decent PC with it. YAY.
They are mostly older computers though. I'm happy.

Nice one, but you think the school would have been smarter and donated the stuff somewhere else, or sold it for some bling.
Now, I just need to find a friend with a car...
Anyways, we get new computers every 2 years (Dell computers). Since I attend a small school (80+ students), we just got 35 new computers. All are Pentium 4 2.6ghz, with radeon 9200's ( I think) and 512mb of ram.
Our 2 year old computer are all 1.6ghz, and radeon 7500's. I wonder if my teacher would let me borrow one or two.... <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Whatever, I was gonna say HL server, but I changed it at the last second since I figured it would be more applicable to these boards.

Me and my friends are more tech-savvy than our network technicians here, and they don't let us touch anything. At all.
I am outa HDD space.
Could I have a drive?
hehe <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
send me 2 30 gig drives, and I will send you one back with stuff on it (no, not pr0n, unless you ask) <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I remember we went on a field trip for computing...to the server room <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> We were shown the different hubs, servers etc but what interested me most is that the network techies had a fridge, couch, tv, microwave , toaster and a PS2 in there. No wonder people usually arent allowed in <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Not even fridges o_O
And when it was about to be almost the end of school (aka use the computers in school all day) the school network had been hit with a virus. GG firewall and Norton Corporate Edition (yes they use that crap)
So yeah, they probably don't trust me and my friends (mostly because instead of being on duty, we're really busy playing AoE2 XD )
Though I can tell you that they really let us down when our personal 10 gig harddisks went down in a server malfunction =_____=
Turned out the thing overheated due to extremely poor ventilation
Our teacher (computer) is so awsome, after school we all play Age of empires 2 on lan or half life and he lets us download whatever we want. Yay!
Good times <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I was a compy techy at my past 2 schools.. When the first one got new ones, they had 486's and all that ugly crap.. *shudders* They had some good sound cards for the time though
iirc i wrote about three papers for the sysadmins to read and told them about methinks two more holes. ^^
