Minor, but annoying.
OK, so here I am sitting at my new comp (which I just got running weeee) and I am having some minor problems. Firstly, I get no sound. I did enable the onboard audio in the BIOS, however. I don't know how to fix it, is it possible that theres a setting in Windows? My other problem has to do with my Wi-Fi. I set up a wireless network card with my new comp and it works great. There is one problem, however. On occasion, I get a little Windows taskbar info window that says "Wireless connection Unavailable" then about 2 seconds later, says "Wireless connection **** detected. Signal strength excellent." I'm not sure how to fix this, but I would like to since it is real freakin annoying.

RE: Sound - Right-Click "My Computer" > "Properties" > "Hardware" > "Device Manager". Make sure there's none of those little yellow warning/exclaimation marks.

My onboard sound doesn't work unless I slap the mainboard disc in
and use those specificied drivers.

Affirmative commando! But I tried that and it doesnt work.

I have one other question. What happens should I fail to "activate" Windows?

You mean Register it online? (When you first start Windows XP
after a format, you can that weird splash style screen that tries
to dial out/connect so you can register.)

As far as I know.... nothing. I've never activated/registered any
Microsoft product (other than my X-Box Live kit but I had no
control over that.) just stay away from Service Pack 2 if you're not sure
how....um.... "safe"... your CD-Key is.

LOL. Um...thanks for the info...since my CD-key is legal of course.

But that still doesnt solve my problem of the audio issues.

If you don't activate windows before the time runs out it freezes up and is unusable until it is activated... If you don't have an internet connection for the durration of that period (the way I did when I first got XP), you will be forced to activate it by phone, as you can't get into your computer to change the software setting and possibly get the internet working.
