I'd say go with the Athlon 64 3000 because of personal experince, and the prices are cheap now.

Other than that, sounds like a great computer. How much are you paying for that video card?

o.O I think that might be a little expensive.

But I would go with a well-known brand of ram such as Corsair or Viking.

From that benchmark of CS:S, ive decided to go for a 5950.. 100fps is good enough ._.

Why are you going for an FX card, even commie with a gun(an nvidia fan) says the FX series is crap?

I would try to get a 9800pro if i were you.

Agreed, stay the *********************888888 away from the entire FX series. They're not even true DirectX 9.0 cards (they don't support shaders 2.0). That's the series that Valve defaults to DX8.1 with Source.

Otherwise, looks like you're doing well.

The boards at www.arstechnica.com are going to be far superior for technical advice. The mb/cpu technologia people <i>live</i> to critique builds, seriously. It's scary.

I completely agree to stay away from fx cards becuase they don't use directx 9 for CS source.

Are you shure you want a 64 bit because I think its a complete waste because they don't have any programs that use 64bit and the 64 bit barely improves it and by the time there are 64 bit programs, your proccessor speed would be outdated and you would need to upgrade once again.

I suggest a MSI 9800 pro beucase it comes with a 9800xt core and a very very nice heatsink that covers both memory and the chip wiht a nice fan.
    <a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-127-127&depa=1' target='_blank'>MSI 9800 Pro</a>

And if you cant afford it, get a 9800 se and see if you can open all 8 pipelines.

I agree on all accounts on graphics card advice.

However, as no one has really made any mobo points:

    Summary
It's a bit expensive for the price. I would try eBuyer for bargain motherboards.

    Detail
    Only 3 Dims
Why no PCIe? Soon the technology will be commonplace. Give it 5 months and PCI cards will be out of production. (Me predicts. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
FSB is not listed, but I pressume (and hope,) it's 400Mhz.
The only really nice feature is the ASUS POST Reporter. All others are pretty bland. (I mean, it stresses it supports USB 2, a technology which is old in computing terms. How many motherboards have only Usb1.1 now?)
It does not list (or I could not find,) more detailed specification. How many USB ports? How many USB headers? Does it actually have IDE in addtion to SATA?

RAID is not that useful too. Go for a cheaper one without it IMO. A NIC would be better. (I am sure there must be one, but I can't see it...)

I Agree with you BlueNovember, but PCI express cards cost a lot, and we don't know if he can afford a card that is expensive.

Get a 9800 pro instead, you'll be glad you did.

Instead of a PCIe board? Hmmmgahhmmfhgaqwads.

    Close one.

Yeah, GundamCL, PCIe costs a bomb as it's new, and not mass produced. (Of course you knew that, but I thought Id say it for bennifit of others.) It will fall in price rapidly as it gets taken up, and orders are made by 3rd party vendors. I buy OEM, so it's just a matter of time. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That's the problem with buying a PC; if you wait a few weeks longer, you will get more for less.

Personally, I am waiting until HL2 comes out to get a new graphics card, and until 2005 to get a PCIe board, (if my PC needs a full-blown update by then, which I doubt.)

Still, if you have the money, go for it. PCIe is going to be really, really big.

    a) "PCIe" looks so much nicer. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    b) Oo000... /me bets otherwise, in a daring move.

If this gets heated, I'll be forced to quote reviews and specification sheets! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

PCI Express owns the pants off of 8xAGP because PCI Express is like a 16x or a 32x AGP slot, but I'm still a little fuzzy on the facts.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Uber fast Bus speed, uber small slot, uber useful for builders of uber small pcs.

    Pretty "Uber", all in all.

I would just get a 3000 xp mobile because you can overclock that mofo and use the extra money to get a good cooler for your cpu and vid card.

And for the mem, I'd rather go Crosair, but thats my preferance.
If you want a 400$ video card, get a decent power supply...

Like at least a 420 watt one.
