Half Life 2.... Um Wow

Valve is apparently already working on a Half-Life 2 expansion pack.
Half-Life 3 is planned, so expect another cliffhanger ending.

    Do we have any information on the expansion pack? Any information whatsoever?

    Kind of reminds me of me, though.. "Ooh! I'm going to make a game! Oh, and I'm going to make an expansion pack, then a mod for it, then I'm going to make a sequel following on from the start, with the expansion pack for the second as well!"

    "You haven't even started your first game yet"

    "You're treading on my dreams, Preston"

    ...wait, where was i?

    Oh, yeah. Oooer. Hl2.

    It's been there for a <i>very</i> long time. Did Valve ever announce they were making HL3? If so, I don't recall it.

    Come on, it's not nice to tease people about their weight problems! Especially when they could win a sumo match against an obese whale.

    Ohh, I get it. We're playing "insult a nice guy because of their physical size [while we're in pretty poor condition ourselves] because he needs money to live and support his family and his business, essentially the key to his continued survival, is more worried about its financial future than a couple of impatient, arrogant egotistical arsehats". ( <i> Yeah, I wouldn't bother replying to that if i were you. </i> )

    I don't like that game too much, let's play "everybody shutup who isn't a mod" instead.

    Edit for relevence: Here's the current information we have on it:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->#  Valve is apparently already working on a Half-Life 2 expansion pack.

    Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't strike me as: informative, or substantiated. Where did they get this information from? I'd like to read the source so I actually have some idea.

    Also, obligatory "i told you so": I've been saying from [almost] the start that HL2 probably wouldn't be the answer to the hl conspiracies. There were a lot of unexplained story/plot lines in HL1... who's to say HL2 will explain all of them neatly? [for e.g. who is the G-man]. Hey, it'll probably raise quite a few of it's own.

    hmm havnt heard anything about hl3 yet,

    same for the expansion pack. But hey, if the first HL had 2 well then why not.

    Just more continuation for the story! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Well, www.half-life3.com is taken, though currently it just redirects to www.half-life2.com (official HL2 site). I think it's pretty safe to say there's going to be an HL3.

    Not really that surprising to see an expansion in the works, considering HL1 has both Opposing Forces and Blue Shift.

    That means nothing. Companies often do this simply to protect domains <i>if</i> they decide to do another title later. I think I remember Valve hinting at a possible third installment some time ago, but a simple domain is not proof enough. Hell, there's domains for Beyond Good & Evil 2 and 3, but at best there is only a statement by Michel Ancel that he wants a trilogy, but there is no guarantee he has it.

    However, since they were registered <i>after</i> the dismal sales caused by Ubi's foolish undermarketing behind Prince of Persia... Err... sorry. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Basically all it means is they're at the very least thinking about it (and really, with HL and the hype around HL2, it'd be silly to not think trilogy), but for now, it's all in the waiting game. And let's just worry about HL2 for the time being. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    They bloody should do it. I started and finished the game yesterday (amazing game, i might add) but the ending just screams sequel.

    Of course you'll need a new vid card for HL3, there's no way in hell it will be out any time soon. HL1 took a couple of years with the rewrite included. HL2 ~6 years and counting, HL3 will likely be even more complex and I don't think you'll even hear anything about it until at the very minimum another five years.

    I don't think so; HL2 has only taken so long because they had to create the engine, and then create the game. Valve have stated that HL3 won't be another 5 year opus as they'll only have to enhance the Source engine with the technological flavour of the month as well as creating the game.

    I'm convinced that I read somewhere(most likely the "<a href='http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1298&perpage=15&pagenumber=1' target='_blank'>emails from Valve</a>" thread) that once HL2 is out, they will take a break/vacation before starting on other projects, so HL3 would most likely not even be in production[except for ideas I should think] until 2006 or the last half of 2005.
