Star Wars Galaxies

And how it hates me so....
Well, a few months back i played the trial, and i really liked it. Enough to want to subscribe and play it more. Please don't turn this into an argument about how SWG sucks, i don't care what you think, i like the game, ok?

Anyway, after my trial account expired, i set out to see if i could buy it. I go to town and check every store that carries games. None of them stock it. I ask in one or two of the stores when it's going to be released or when they're going to get it in. From both stores i got the answer that it's been recalled due to a publishing error which distributed used CD-Keys. Ok, so all the copies are back at distribution, i know, i'll try online.

I try a few online stores (Primarily amazon.co.uk and play.com) Play don't stock it and amazon were selling it for ?40. So screw that, i'll check some US sites. Both amazon.com and lucasarts.com stock it for a price between $26-30 or so. That's good, that's only ?18 or so. I enter all my details, and what's this, neither will ship it to England. *sigh*

Anyway, while in PC World (Big corporate computer store, overpriced as hell) a few days back i notice a copy on the shelves. I didn't have the money with me, but safe in the knowledge that it's back on store shelves, i'd try again in a few days.

Now cut to today. Not wanting to pay PC World's ?35 price tag i go shopping around for a better deal. No other store stocked the game, and again on asking when they're getting more copies in, i recieve the same answer that i got a few months ago. It's still recalled. So after scavenging town for a copy, i head to PC World to pick it up at it's inflated price.

I walk into PC World, pick the game off the shelf, take it to the counter where i'm informed that the game shouldn't be on the shelf as it's from the previous recalled batch and they regretfully inform me that they're unable to sell it to me. Bastards.

So here i am, SWG-less, i came SO close to buying it, but alas, some evil forces are at work preventing me from buying this game.

I hear a lot of stories like this one from the UK. Software distribution needs some work there I guess.

On the other hand, I did order my headphones from the UK, got them at my door in the US in 10 days. Maybe you should checkout a reputable online site to purchase the game?

I would have suggested that. However I don't know what sort of export restrictions it would have. Or if the versions are like DVDs. One for the US and one for the UK.

(I'm not even allowed to leave the country without doing the proper paperwork first )

I went to PC World, Currys, Game, HMV and this other game shop i know (can't remember the name). PC World told me that SW:G wasn't even out yet (they suck, seriously). Then out of desperation i tried WH Smiths, and they had one copy, which was behind the counter, because the woman at the till wanted to buy it. I explained that it was an Online Only game (she hadn't noticed), and i got it. Score. Although i don't play it any more. MMORPGs just don't seem to be my bag.

meanwhile I see it in every game store I go to but I'm always too cheap to shell out for it

so I just started a new 14 day trial instead... heh

I got mine from WH-Smith Esuna. Check there.
I'd sell you mine but I think the CD-Key has been
associated with my Credit Card. if you can get a CD-Key
(maybe you can buy one online like City Of Heroes).

If i've cancelled my account then the Key is now open
    to be used again?

Tell you what Esuna, if you can clear the above up and
send me a large S.A.E - you can have my Star Wars Galaxies.
(Although I may give the poster that came with it to my little
    Step-Brother.)

PM me if you're up for this.

Esuna, if you want my suggestion, once you get the game try not to ruin it for yourself. Doctors Buffs make you advance through the professions at a god-like speed. I might still be playing if I didnt do everything I wanted to do in about 3 months.

you have to get to the point where paying 10k for buffs is actually affordable for you first though... and that's not all that easy, doing the normal 800 credits per mission missions...

Have you tried using Fileplanet's digital download thingy?

I think you can buy it from them.

I've currently got a Dancer character which i've sunk 2 weeks worth of training into, also i had a nice circle of people i'd hang around and dance with for hours every day. It was fun meeting new people, getting free crap and earn money. During the day i'd spend my time exploring the planets and doing some marksmanship training.

As with most games, i try to avoid the cheap and easy way of doing things.

It's all in how you play. I've been going at carbineer/squad leader for months now and I'm not even halfway to mastering them. If you really find joy in just clicking on stuff, I guess you can master the professions. But if you play the game like I do, wandering the galaxy, looking for neat stuff, and meeting interesting people, career progression goes at a manageable rate.

Are you sure amazon doesn't ship it to England? Because if they don't, why do they have this page?

As far as anime and games go, we're a third world country wizard. We're generally spat on by distributers from outside the UK (sure we'll release it... about 5 months after america) and MMOs can be quite tricky to buy boxed here more than anything =/
Mind you our country is only just slowly warming to online in general at the moment so I guess I can half understand the whole marketting crud behind it ~sighs and rolls eyes~

I'd just order from abroad es... that's how I got CoH after all =3

Esuna, i DEMAND that you make a small film or animated gif of you standing there with the opened box (the two flaps on the front) with your legs apart (in a dramatic stance), and then you close the flaps while shouting "IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!". Or is it closed flaps to open flaps.... either way, do it.

Quick tip: Starsider is sort of the "unofficial" roleplaying server, although most servers have roleplayers. Just not too many
