are there any simple enough for a beginner to use, I just want to get used to it, then start making some quality ones, I just downloaded milkshape, but i'm starting to think it's too complicated for me.
i really dont think there is a easy way out to modeling, its best to just practice and cheak out the tutorials, if you need a good modeling program, milkshape is a good one to begin with. theres gmax and others, go <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20223' target='_blank'>here</a> to cheak them out
i think your a few nuts short of a bolt! how do you like that PUNK! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

lightwave has the most powerful modler around (even above maya). Easy to use and has heaps of tutorials. Granted maya is better at everything else but it also costs about twice as much.
to... tired... to read the rest of the thread. everything i do is in milkshape (milkshape3d.com) 25 $ piece of software, worth every penny, and then some

It's really a matter of personal preference. I find Maya much easier to learn and much easier to use, and the most powerful to boot. I recomend the personal learning edition and maybe a few tutorials. Learn to extrude, scale, and move, and you're halfway there.
you could try G-Max .......i personally HATED it cause it was too fussy trying to find everything on it and even following tutorials I couldnt get anything to work
i make my noobish creations in Milkshape 3D.....best modelling thing i've used, mainly cause its the only one i've been able to get to grips with
For half-life modeling, you really don't need the power of, say, Maya or even Max, but Max makes modeling easier. Remember, Half-Life models RARELY exceed 5k polies, so it's not something that's hard for a program to render. Using Maya is like using a tractor-trailor to tow a wheelbarrow.
