<div class="IPBDescription">only affecting this mod</div> after installing some new drivers for my sound card, sound stopped working entirely for ns. no sound in the menus, no sound in game, nothing; just complete silence.
this only affects ns; i've checked regular hl and other mods and their sound works fine. oh - and sound works completely fine for all my other games.
if anyone knows a possible solution to fix this, any help would be appreciated. thanks.
btw here are my specs if it helps:
p4 1.7 ghz
512 mb ddram
win xp pro
geforce 4 ti 4200
sound blaster audigy
(i know the obvious solution is to roll back to older drivers. i really dont want to do that just for one game, because the older sound card drivers unfortunately makes surround sound run like crap for all my other games.)
oh and btw - im not quite sure of this is belongs in the bug section instead....im not quite sure but i decided to post here <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Comments
no friken idea.
Things to try:
1) Del all your .cfg files (or simply name them to name.cfg.bak)
2) if that don't work, uninstall/reinstall NS
honestly, no friken clue, sorry mate.
then i installed all my games. ns was the only one that gave me a problem with the new drivers
thanks for your help though <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
***UPDATE***
i managed to get sound working briefly when i changed the video settings. i wasnt in game though (you get kicked out when you change video settings in hl <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->). as soon as i connected to a server the sound went mute again <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Ok... I had the same problem, I also have a soundblaster audigy... and the sound would often randomly cut out, though usually at map change.
It did that with or without winamp running, but when winamp was running, it would crash winamp utterly, even closing and reopening winamp would not fix it... though opening windows media player was fine and sounds worked.
If sound cut out in NS (as above it did with or without winamp on so winamp is not a factor)... I could only get it back by closing and reopening NS... I tried fiddling with all the options to get sound to work, and none of them helped...
Now the differnece with me, is that it effected ALL of my steam based games, CS, NS, the ship, The Specialists, so on...
I was using the standard creative drivers, with the XP update they included with them, for a soundblaster audigy player.
The only way I could fix the problem was by moving to a new set of drivers, the kX drivers
<a href='http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?language=en' target='_blank'>kX Project website.</a>
These are not the offical audio drivers, but in my opinion they are much better, they are mainly aimed towards musicians to get the most out of their sound cards, but works well for games and general use.
These drivers may or may not fix your problem, but they worked for me.
(and surround sound in ns.....holy crap its great)
thanks a bunch man <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
