Steamboy
<div class="IPBDescription">yet another reason to learn japanese</div> Steamboy is a Japanese-Anime style-epic movie about a boy who recieves an enigmatic "steam-sphere" or something, and his adventures. la li lu le lo.
i first heard about this movie not from Anime News Network, or by word of mouth, but from the music section of some enormous japanese electronics store. the Steamboy soundtrack was available for listening at one of the machines they've got there, so being the semi-obsessed anime fan i am, i put on the (craptacular) headphones and pressed the play button for "Steamboy O.S.T."
And I was in heaven. well, to be exact, i was in Manchester, the name of the Steamboy "theme," and not-so-coincedentally the setting for the Steamboy movie.
First of all, let me get something clear real quick - the movie has NOT been released in America as of yet, nor has there been any alternate subbings been made available, so all you bittorrent itchy people need not press your hotkey for suprnova.com yet, at least for a while. According to AnimeNewsNetwork.com, Steamboy's premiere showing in Japan was on the 17th of July, so don't expect an english version to be released too soon.
Anyway, back to the soundtrack. It rules. At least from what I heard at the store, and from a couple of blog reviews i've read. *abrupt post end due to annoying 8 year old cousin behind me*
for those of you interested in grabbing your own copy of the OST, i saw a few available on ebay for about 9 bucks (about 21 bucks less then what it's costing here in Japan).
due to the above reasons, i don't have time to provide any links, but there are a several links to steamboy trailers and stuffs, although the official site is in Japanese. search for theatrical trailor as well, for the 6 minute leet trailor.
btw, i didn't actually buy the steamboy soundtrack for reasons beyond even my own comprehension, although i did pick up a copy of "The Melody of Oblivion," another nice OST for some anime I've never seen. i'll definitely be ordering one from ebay soon though...

I always wanted to grab a copy of GitS OST but they don't have them in stock here in Hong Kong, compared to other countries =_=
But yeah, I might look forward to looking for this OST. Hopefully is hasn't disappeared in HK yet XD

ebay and amazon.co.jp are your friends
Heres a break down:
Steamboy gets Steam-Sphere.
Steamboy can't play any of his games on Steam-Sphere.
Steamboy complains how WON-Sphere was "teh bett3rz0rz".
SPHERe, makers of Steam-Sphere, make many, many improvements.
Steamboy now loves Steam-Sphere.
Steamboy tries to use generated Credit Card numbers to steal "Condition Sphere" from SPHERe.
Steamboy complains on the Sphere-Powered forums about how he is banned.
SPHERe owns him with logic.
Steamboy is banned from using Steam-Sphere for a year.
Secondly amazon.co.jp is good, if you can write in japanese.
However I highly recommend <a href='http://www.cdjapan.co.jp' target='_blank'>CDJapan</a> for all your OST and DVD needs.

It's all in english, and you can use the Americanised names for all the series (IE Ghost in the Shell instead of Koukaku Kidoutai)
In actual fact you're better off doing so as you'll return more hits.
<a href='http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search.html?type=GC&word=Ghost+in+the+shell&restrict=CD&step=50&sub=&word_1=GC_gigantor&result=2400030' target='_blank'>Hmmm Ghost in the Shell OSTs</a>
I've yet to see Steamboy, but it looks promising.
Katsuhiro Otomo has delivered a lot over the years (Robot Carnival & Akira woooo), and I don't doubt he'll deliver again.
Also good to note that Steamboy 2 is in production, but if I recall correctly there was some debate on whether it was going to be another movie or a new OVA or TV series. I think it's win win any way you wish to look at it.

infinitum: besides the legal issues, what's so bad about getting a pirated OST? i don't have much of a cd collection, so the lack of a jewel box or bonus "book" (which is probably in Japanese) is O.K. to me. i don't think a pirated OST will have any difference quality wise, although pirated software and DVDs are a different story (this is coming from someone who has an 1' tall stack of them...)
