How To Make Textures?

<div class="IPBDescription">I can't find any tutorials</div> Hey. I wanted to have a go at making some textures, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Would I... Take a photo of the "texture" [i.e bath tiles, etc] i want, then Photoshop it to the tileable texture, in the resolution of multiples of... what was it? 8, 64, 128, 256, 512? [i.e 512 x 512]. Then how would i go about converting it into something that can be used in HL?

    Thats one way of doing it, remember that all Bitmaps in Half Life have to be 8-Bit (256 colors).
    My preferred method has always been to draw whatever I want from Scratch. That way you arent limited to what you can find in your house.

    brigadierwolf - Yeah, but for a few specific textures that i have around my house, it'd be a whole lot easier and better [for me at least] to take a high-quality photo then edit it in photoshop.
