As expected when we did an interview with Valve not long ago (we couldn't say anything), the game will be going gold.

And, like I said, we would have gladly informed ATI fans when we found out a few weeks ago, but we much rather like to keep our relationship with Valve nice.

final post

" never said it was going gold Monday, I said next week.

And from the indications Valve was giving us.... it makes sense.

But of course, anything can change. It all depends on Steam, really. Pre-loading has begun for Half-Life 2, which should be a good indicator for everyone that its going gold very very soon. "

    yar, tis naught but deception.

It shouldn't be long though. My guess is that it'll be ready mid-late september.

As long as CSS is in beta HL2 will not go gold unless they decide on getting HL2 out first, then have CSS.

Is this in response to a particular event, or him just saying, "Half-Life 2 will GO GOLD!"

If it's the latter, well, so will Duke Nukem Forever.

Yeah, but CS:Source is much further along in terms of content than what we have. You have to remember it's a stress test of the Source engine first and foremost; finding bugs in CS:S is just a bonus that will speed the development in small increments.

Something occured to me about HL2 Being distributed by steam.
    HL2 is 4-6GB?
And the servers are still full/super-strained by the hl2 preloads....
Those who buy it in the shop will have the game on the day.. its going to take ages for those on steam to get hl2.. by ages, I mean litterally days..

At least, thats what I can tell from what I'm seeing at the moment O_o

I read on some website valve has 6-7 GBPS at their disposal right now, and a phone call can double that (when Hl2 is out probably) I read this on PHL or something.

I think it's roughly about 7 years now.

As to HL2, personally, i'm reckoning about mid-late October time, a lot of retailers say 23rd September, a number also say 1st-2nd November, i know none of the retailers have a definate date, but i like to speculate. What with it preloading already, i don't think it will be too long. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The nice thing about preloading is, you can still do it even if you're getting a store copy. When it's released, you just go to the Browse Games menu and click "Register a product I already own." It prompts you for your CD key, and you're good to go -- no installation required. Sweet!

I'm sure the ten minutes you'll save by not having install will really be worth it.

Oh wait - it'll take Steam ten minutes to decide your key is okay. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

im pretty sure only the collectors edition will be on dvd, but what i really wanna know is what else is in the collectors edition, because i think i read somewhere it will include "playable material" or something.

also does anyone know if hl1:S will ship with hl2 or what? who knows maybe thats the playable material?

This would the perfect suprise that Valve could hold, as why tell the gold date, if the stores don't even have it.

I've reserved a nice 7.4 GB for HL2 (that's a lot of space, if you know that my computer has only 20 GB HD)

    "gaben" heh.

I'll be picking it up from the shelves for box and cd, so there's no point preloading and wasting traffic.
