I had some doubts about it, since I heard a lot of rants from these forums, but I was bored so I gave it a spin. And I loved it!
It's not really a pub game, because then it's just CS,
but from the rare teamplay rounds we had on pubs,
I declare this game to be immense fun.
So what do you get when you add a nice group of people
(hostileofftopic @ quakenet) and a fairly interesting game?
Fun! Whee!! You like fun!
So you dont really need to be good at this game.
You dont have to have any experience at all to be honest.
All you need is some decent communication skills
(something very rare and cherished to be found on the internet nowadays)
and preferrably a mic.

Also, does anybody else get really annoyed at marketing for games? "IN-GAME SCREENSHOTS". Wow, fascinating. What i want to see are bloody screenshots of what i will see in the game. INGAME. With the gun and HUD and everything, goddamnit. "Wow, see how pretty it is?" Yeah, thats great, im sure, but i want to know what the game will bloody be like when i play it. Grartgh.

What does it play like? Slow, tactical "take and hold" squad-based firefights?
Well this kind of feels the same.
The game is based on realism (oh the originality). So there's two teams.
Nato and Tango (CTs and Ts). You choose from something like 5 weapons, and then
attack if youre the Natos' (or defend if Tangos).
There is no crosshair, and to shoot you have to aim down the sight (ala CoD), this is kind of hard to get used to but it works.
I dunno... I just liked it.

As for the guns.. They subtract from the game by just being.. ugly. Hopefully they will get some new models for most of them soon <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Aside from all the flaws, it IS fun.

you get about the same visibility by putting a box over your head and cutting out three eye holes.

Meh. Its a bit glitchy, but fun nonetheless.
The main difficulty with HI is that they're using an outdated engine. The game will look amazing when it is ported to source.
The iron sights look great, and are a nice touch. Oh yeah, I thought I'd mention something real quick...<b>there is no way you will ever fire an automatic weapon from the hip</b>. Not going to happen. You are going to raise that gun as quickly as possible.
These days I prefer The Specialists over both NS:C and HI.
Oh yeah, watch out for FF servers. They're worse than any other kind of FF server I've ever been on.

Most of the time you just end up walking around the entire map with your ironsights up. It just makes you like.. 1/3 slower, but that doesnt matter, because if your caught with your ironsights DOWN, your SCREWED. No matter how cool they are, your going to get sick of looking at them. As well as numerous bugs at launch and some ugly models and maps, its not fun to look at or play. Plus you move like a snail thats super glued to a mollases covered surface. I'm sure you get my point.
I applaud the Hostile Intent team for trying to make a "realistic" mod, but it falls short. Very, very, <b>very</b> short. I give it a score of one out of five.

I'd tend to dissagree. While firing from a hip might be innaccurate at ranges, firing from the hip in close quarters is not all that difficult, especially with SMGs, as well as pistols, and automatic rifles are included, but they arent as easy.
The game hits realism as close as possible. It's difficult to get used to when you first start, but most of the bugs that plagued earlier versions have been eliminated.
Without a doubt the mod needs some improvements. However, it is the best produced mod currently available for Half Life. Yes, it even beats out NS, mostly due to its extensive pushing of the HL engine by using "r_detailtextures" and "vg_glow," which allow map details like nothing you've ever seen before and the use of actual shading.
I'm hoping that HI will port to Source as soon as it is possible.

Hip firing a pistol. I can just imagine the idiocy. And an SMG...I'm fairly sure you generally wouldn't be carrying an SMG so you could hip fire it. And an Assault Rifle...well....yeah. You go hip fire an Assault Rifle.
