<div class="IPBDescription">and my night</div> So here I am over in Richmond Virginia.
The rain looks pretty bad outside from work but nothing we haven't dealt with before.
At 4:45 I'm called and told one of the main roads was closed. Soon after I finish up what I'm doing and head out. I get utterly soaked running to my car, noting that the dead, deflated, maggot covered cat I saw when I arrived has changed from gray and black to blond.
I set off, I get the information that just about every road out of the city is closed, including the interstate and a few other well used roads. The one road left is packed. It normally takes me between 15 and 30 minutes to get home, but it takes me 4 hours to go 1/4 the way. I'm still soaked and had to stop for gas at one point. A couple times I showed the signs of hypothermia.
This entire time it seems the drain holes to my sun roof have clogged and so water is dripping into my car.
Right at the 4 hour mark (9:00 pm) I note that the anti-lock brake light is on. Then the radio starts to stutter, I look down and the entire radio is flickering. I turn that off. Note that the wipers are a bit slow, turn those off, pull out the charger to my cell phone, everything I can do to reduce the draw on the system. Then several warning lights turn on and the engine dies. The car won't start. The wireless network is full, I manage to get a call out and told everyone at home. Luckily I stopped just before the entrance to a comfort inn. I release the gears and put it in neutral and start pushing. Then a man comes up and helps me push it in.
I stand in line at the inn for an hour and get a room. Then I manage to get help from 3 university students to get my car out of the way. People were able to get around but I wanted to clear the way better. So I spend the night there after taking a warm shower (best shower of my life). My father comes by in the morning with some fresh clothes and help with my car. Apparently it just got wet and worked after a jump. Unfortunately someone thought it would be funny to break a headlight.
All in all I was pretty lucky. There were two fatalities in my area, flooding was pretty bad. Sections of road were torn away. Semis were being tossed around by the water.
I originally chose that one road because it was fairly high and wouldn't face flooding problems. I heard about a woman who had to climb out of a window when the water reached waist high.
I showed up at work this morning to find the building locked and the basement flooded. I've heard two stories. One saying its closed fro the day, another saying it opens in an hour. I'll just call.
Anyway, tell me some of your bad weather experiences.
