    Hmm with my 9800 Pro I get 75 FPS on cs source with all ingame settings maxed out on high and resolution set to 1280x1024.

    fx'es don't do dx9 - technically i think they're capable, but their performance with PS2.0 instructions is terrible - i remember the benchmarks when the FX line was first released, and it wasn't pretty. AFAIK they backport dx9 instructions to dx8.1 (ps1.4).

    Well that doesn't make much sense. Can't imagine how things can speed up in Windows as it doesn't really use much of your graphics card... (Yea i've had a GF4, no differences with upgrades).

    Well i'm not, SM1.1(GF4) -> SM2.0(R9) == better image quality.

    shader model 3.0 doesn't give you any advantages other than performance. But performance is a good thing™, so I don't see why it's anything to scoff at.
