spy/malware infection
it seems that i've got some brand of CoolWWWSearch on my compy.. i've run CWshredder and that's gotten rid of it, i think, but whenever i try to run spybot it gets stuck on CoolWWWSearch.HomeSearch and won't keep scanning... i know for a fact that there are a few more nasties on my comp, but i don't know how i'm supposed to get them if my spybot won't even keep going..

It's actually just a stall, I think. Leave it sit for a bit, it'll go past. It must be hard to search for.

well i cant say ive had this problem but have you tryed going in manually (ie c:/crap/hacks/pr0n/downloads?) you can usually see the file location when doing a scan. also try useing both adware and that other one you have

I've had the stall. Just wait it out a bit, and retry if you think it's frozen.

I've used adaware and spykiller in an attempt to remove a lot of the crap on my comp. I know my sister has used it a few times, but that can't be it.

I've had these annoying "pop-ups" which aren't even pop-ups. I hear the I.E click noise for when you click a link and nothing happens. It'll just drop out of the game i'm playing and do nothing. annoying!

    ah well

I think your talking about the messenger service. Thats easily disabled with a bit of knowhow.

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

Locate messenger and disable the service.

Sometimes I'd get that annoying popup five times in a row whilst gaming. It's annoying and proof of Microshafts ubiquitious evil.

Try not to get 'infected' to begin with. Don't go to pr0n/warez/filthy sites, don't use I.E. since it for whatever reason(either because microsoft is teh evil!!!!11 or because it's the most prevalent browser or whatever) suffers from a lot of little exploits that might let someone install programs/put nasty things in your favorites or as your start page etc. Keep potentially vulnerable software reasonably up to date(at least everything windows or browser related). Don't install random popular programs without checking to make sure they don't contain spyware or other scumware(google it and if it has any malware included someone have assuredly found out about it), don't open .exe's you downloaded of kazaa or something even with an anti-virus if you're not really desperate. Don't open attachments in mails you didn't explicitly ask for or you know for a fact was sent from the person in the e-mail, if unsure mail the person and ask. Avoid outlook express like the black plague. And so on, 99% of the time common sense will be enough to avoid these sorts of things.

I don't even bother with an anti virus, I don't have a firewall and I do roughly the above, I have no problems what so ever, if I run a spyware scan with any of these programs I just get a bunch of cookies, most of them delicio... not malicious looking.

CW Shredder is a great utility, but you probably need to run it in safe mode to get rid of everything. Also make sure that you have the most recent version, as CWSearch keeps getting more evil as time goes on.

I had to go through a rediculous amount of effort to pry it off my family's computer (dim-witted siblings). It's probably easiest to just switch to firefox and mostly clean it.

GAH i finally nuked it, i think..

now i need to tackle adgoblin..

x-cleaner, websweeper, nothing gets it out... spyhunter needs to be paid for *rolleyes*

and spybot, of course, stalls when it hits adgoblin..

what happened was, i clicked a seemingly innocent link about some military statistical information..

and my computer froze as it was loaded with a cubic f*kton of malware

so i've gotten most of it... adgoblin is just a bastard
