it's been a while since a digitally animated, epic-adventure movie was released in the U.S. i'm looking forward to this, being the 3d-animation buff i am (heh, who on these forums aren't?), and from a few short reviews on the IMDB page, it doesn't look like it's going to disappoint. there's a full screen trailer available at the link above, and it looks sexy * 10. woot, can't wait til 9/17th.

The win.
You think posting about it early here is bad?
I saw LotR: RotK on New Year's Day of this year. One of the previews was for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. A few days later, I tried telling my friends that it looked awesome, but they didn't seem to care. Last week, one of them starts to tell the group about this great new movie they saw a preview for called "Sky Captain... something".
A tried to explain to them that I had told them about the very same movie EIGHT FREAKING MONTHS AGO.
*Sigh*
Color me bemused.
i like the whole futuristic dealyness, so yeah ima see this for sure
cant wait to see it!

Ah, but the genius is the awesomosity (I enjoy making up words) of futuristic technology and the awesomosity of the art-deco architecture, clothing, and technology of the early 20th century.
Who saw that coming? Seriously.
Care to elaborate, EEK?

That's better than:

The movie looks okay. Seems kind of stupid and predictable plotwise, but I suppose it's supposed to mock 50's stuff, so I guess it should be like that. I'm sure people that go to watch it and like that kind of thing will like it, but I'm not going to see it.

I like FF:the movie enough to buy it, so I guess I...liked it. Some of the bloopers are cool. Plus, despite how stupid the plot seems to be it's a pretty cool movie. The initial design for the intro is much better than what's there and makes a much better introduction.
1) How much sci-fi have you seen? Are there really that many instances that don't have a woman scantily clad or at least in tight clothing?
2 and 3) It doesn't have to make sense. The Force doesn't make sense. That, and its supposed to be very stylized. Would you rather him fight alien aircraft with large engines in the back, and he could pilot a military fighter jet? Because, at that point, its just Independence Day.

I don't think its really supposed to mock it. I think its more of a revival/homage thing.
This movie takes place on god damn earth and when I see this massive machines... WITH FLAPPING WINGS THAT WOULDN'T EVEN WORK... being shot down with little bullets from a slow-as-hell and weak-as-paper WW2 fighter, I tend to think "Boy someone drew too much cocaine here".
BTW: Read some of the IMDB reviews:
I enjoy how people use 'It's not meant to be taken seriously' to justify stuff a blind retard would think is stupid. I see that tagline thrown around so much it's meaningless.
And, of course the hero can take them down. Just like humans were able to destroy super-advanced other-worldly threats in Independence Day, Stargate, and just about every other sci-fi movie.
Edit: EEK, obviously this argument is going no where, as neither of us will change our opinions, so I think I'll just wander off and decide not to take anything you say too seriously.
Edit II: See if you can spot the not-too-subtle insult.
But in all reality: Independence Day, Stargate and other movies have plausible ways of killing off the overpowering aliens. Shooting giant robots with machine guns doesn't rate high on my "Wow, that seems possible" meter. Like I said though, you gotta make it like the 50's with the American-Fighter-Ace-OWNS-YOU stuff.
[You have no idea how many tries it took me to type out fighter.]

Using a Mac virus to take down shields? THAT makes no sense.
Also, in none of the previews of Sky Captain have I actually seen Sky Captain's fighter take down one of the advanced ships. His bullets hardly seem to affect them at all.

I was actually thinking it was more of a virus that interferes with the alien's programs so they can't effectively control their ship and the shields go down (same reason the tiny ships pod is released)...some weird parts in that movie though (like why Aliens would need to fly around to get to cities instead of dropping out of the sky in their super enhanced hovering discs right onto the cities).
I know he shoots some robots or something with his gun, I've seen him fire the machine gun. Not sure what he's hitting, but that was more EEK's department <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Sort of like how you've never seen a Strider die in HL2 trailers?
Coincidence? I THINK NOT.
Thats what also draws me to it.
if eek hates it, i know i'll just love it.
