[wip] S.a.d Mk. I

PerditionPerdition Join Date: 2004-07-02 Member: 29692Members

Sonic Artillary Device Mk. I
Well, here is my wip for my very first shot at NS modeling. It is a possible replacement for the seige cannon, whipped up in about an hour and a half (bathroom breaks and staring at the screen like an idiot included.)

Constructive C&C is very, very welcome. (._. I know it looks pretty bland, im working on thinking of new things to kind of *spice* it up.)

wow, that does look pretty good, it hoverS!!!!11

only thing i would change is removing the hollow barrel, and making it flat on the end

I'm not a fan of the base, but the actual weapon part of it is pure secks.

Looks nice. A little simple on the surface area, but that can be faked with texture.

The nozzle is interesting, but maybe the outside edges on the little teeth on the end could be squeezed to be more conical, so it seems more focused.

The base sure looks solid.

...This is a [WIP] thread. As such, my natural assumption was that the stand would be added at some point.
• BulletHeadBulletHead Join Date: 2004-07-22 Member: 30049Members
I can see the weapon (nix the stand) becoming like, an HMG or somethign 0o'

I like it!

In fact, I planned on searching out a few tutorials for wires/tubes later today, and slapping a few on here and there.

As for the base, I figured it would have to be very large and very solid looking, seeing as the seige cannon is hovering above it. (One thing I didnt think about though, when it fires, launching off of its platform and killing the rine behind it.)

Here is a crummy two second render of it, just for...fun sake I guess. I'll be working on smaller details of the weapon later today.

Done in Blender, yes I know...i'm a real freeware ****.

just promise me you didnt model it in blender D: because it cant cant!! export to anything useful! >___<

looks good though, and the renders not that bad

Blender is the sweaty underarm of modeling programs. I modeled it in Wings, and rendered it in blender. Just because I think it has a pretty good rendering engine.

smooth that bad boy out
• PerditionPerdition Join Date: 2004-07-02 Member: 29692Members
I wanna finish off the actual modeling before i start tearin it up with smoothing just yet.
Ive yet to update with the most recent one, outfitted with an uber-1337 wire.

And maybe something on the rear of the gun, as it is just a flat surface.
• PerditionPerdition Join Date: 2004-07-02 Member: 29692Members
For the most part final rendering of the cannon model. Just gotta figure out how to properly attach the wire to the gun.
• RatonetwothreetwooneRatonetwothreetwoone Join Date: 2004-03-23 Member: 27504Members
pc?

and i think the wire should go into the rear cylinder, doesnt look right going into the middle of the barrel

Maybe ill do a second wire, or just duplicate, resize, and stick that one on the other side.

good.

i dont mind blender i dont, i used it before, i like it's lighting, particles and flares it renders, they're real nice. you can get some realistic effects. but it doesnt render objects too well :\ oh well. My main beef is you cant do **** with a .blend file, nor export to anything else (the .whatever it exports to is blank in anything you try to import it into, except blender itself). Oh well.

(cinema 4d trial for free rendering)

Not bad. I like it
How about using an attachment similar to that one for that model?
• frostymoosefrostymoose Join Date: 2003-09-12 Member: 20799Members
save yourself the trouble of "rendering" that in blender when you can get better looking viewport shots in wings.
• PerditionPerdition Join Date: 2004-07-02 Member: 29692Members
I just do the rendering for my own personal pleasure. But as soon as the actual modeling is final, im going to give you all the viewport shots. I did add a second wire, a few more little attachments here and there on the gun to give it some life, and moved the prongs at the end of the barrel forward to give it that *focused* look, as someone suggested before.

Updates later, gotta go for now.

Here is the .3ds of the completed MODEL, still in four parts. (Base, gun, wire1, wire2.) And the mesh of the base. I'm finding myself without the time or patience to mess around with this currently, so it's here if anyone feels like messing with it any more.

*edit* Reuploaded the new rar containing the model and base mesh.
