<div class="IPBDescription">Possably the best time?</div> Well, I've noticed it, you have all probably noticed it too, that there has been a recent uprising in game devs putting out betas of their games. This is good for them in 2 ways, they get games tested faster, and they get people hooked. (I would never have thought of buying WoW but now I'll go broke paying for it because I'm addicted) And it's good for us, because we get to play theese wonderfull games for free.

I hope this trend lasts...

It's been said long ago by many game magazines/sites, even in the year 2002 when these projects were announced that 2004 would be a banner year. When HL2 was delayed it was like Jesus came down and had sex with every gamer ever for 2004. With a rifle. While calling them punkass newbs.

    Jesus cheats FYI>

I don't think they're so much betas as either

    A) Really awesome, expansive demos (CoH comes to mind)

    or

    B) Really buggy demos with 90% of the features in the real game.

Maybe a small amount of bugs get caught in the mega huge beta phase, but most of them are probably gone by then. I'm all for it, seeing as it's a lot easier to decide whether or not you want to buy a game if you can play almost all of it, compared to being able to play like 10% of it.

betas dont really appeal to me because theyre free, because if i join the beta im gunna buy the game 90% of the time; they appeal because i get to play the game before the release date and therefore you get to play it before the most people do.

With HL2 around the corner, it is indeed a great time to be a gamer. However, the years have passed; those wonderful feelings playing Super Mario World and other SNES classics as a child will never be bettered.
