Simplistic, yet seemingly hard to use..
Ok, this is gunna sound a lil' funny..
I had trouble using the Onos. Granted the bodys flew around the room when I ran in and there was general havoc. Yet I couldnt figure out how to *kill* things with it, and if something died it was just dumb luck on my part.

How do I aim with my big tusk? Is it a sweeping attack? Do I have to point the little tip of it on the marine i'm trying to gore?

And the god damn charge.. jeez.. HOW? I Charge, I ROAR, people FLEE! yet nothing dies. How do I go about using this thing? Where is the "a human doesn't even slow it down, and it hits metal or machinery like a detonation" I read about? I know it works 'cause I've been on the reciving end a couple times .. *cringe*

Primal Screem? I have to assume it *worked* because my energy drop'd, but other then that there doesnt seem to be much effect.

btw, I've read the manual, I'm looking more for a "how-to" then a "why" in this post.

yep i have that problem too..

for me, i thought, WOW! I have enough resources for an onus! now i can go in and kick the butt of those 2 turrets.... and yes, i can absolutely kicked...

Roar is for your teamates only i think.. Aliens definitely need to be balanced more.

Primal scream is a support tool, it does absolutely no damage. However, it does boost the movement speed, attack speed, and adreneline regen speed of everyone inside its radius, turning all the aliens into crazy marine murdering machines.

Also, as far as onos goes, make sure you are taking advantage of chamber upgrades! An onos without a defensive upgrade is just plain crazy. If a gorge is actively in combat healing you or RP is plentiful, I'd say go for Caraspace. If no gorge is around to heal you mid battle, or cash is tight, I'd suggest redemption, so you don't loose all your $. Regen is kinda worthless for an onos cause its quite hard to hide in a corner while you get health back :P

Charge activates collision damage for the onos. So, the more your TOUCHING a marine (charging into it) the more damage it does. Basically, activating charge and running into marines gets you kills.

The onos is also a nice defensive tool in hallways. Use Cloaking (at level 3), Regen or Redemption, and Celerity. Then cloak in at the end of a hallway often used by marines.

Once they get near you activate charge, then run at them. Even heavy armors fall quickly to such a charge.

One thing to remember is that charge does no damage against structures (at least I heard that it doesnt, maybe it does too little to notice), so use your normal bite/horn on structures. Also, the bite you have is extremely powerful so it's still useful against marines in general, often killing an unarmored marine in one bite.

I thought you couldn't use Redemption as an Onos?
  • TurtleTurtle Join Date: 2002-10-18 Member: 1540Members
You know, it says you can't, but I'm not sure. I can't recall exactly if I've ever been redeemed as an Onos. I'll test it next time I play.

If you can, then perhaps there's a bug, or they forgot to remove that little bit of text, or perhaps you just can't get the higher levels of redemption with the Onos.

Charge - it says it works vs. structures. Thanks for telling me how it works
Redemption - it says it doesn't work on an onos, but it does :/

Does charge stack with normal attack? ie, can you activate charge and then run into them and attack at the same time?

Never gotten charge to actually hurt anything. Lord knows I've tried. And yes, redemption works with Onos. Though it can be a little irritating when it redeems you and you still have 150+ health left.

Perhaps charge should be modified into a constant radius damage effect (like lots of grenades going off with a small radius, invisibly) right in front of the onos. Then it would be like its charging with a 'detonation'

Charge works wonderfully, if you go head on with a marine, he wont be pushed out of the way, he will be trampled tell he is dead. You than run over him and head onto his buddies while your adrenaline fades away.

the battle cry thing for onos does alot. You battle cry, wait a few second to get some adrenaline and than attack the marines you will do a insane amount of damage on top of the insane damage you already do. You attack as fast as a skulk (if not a little faster) and you hit ALOT harder. It great when you have the endy regen ability (33% faster end regen) and than use it.

I have not been able to damage structures with charge (turrets/bases) your tusks do short work of most of that stuff though
