Co Parasite

Should I stop?
Often in combat maps, I will take the time to sneak my cloaked self into a well hidden nook in the marine start and parasite as many marines as I can. With the right nook and a bit of luck (as well as knowing when to stop and stay cloaked) I can get dozens and dozens before the enraged marines finally spot me and wreak their terrible revenge. To me, this is immensely fun and I often drift to sleep at the end of the day replaying the marines screeches of anger in my head.
Doing this tends to get one of two reactions from my teammates:
1) "Get down from there and do something useful you loser!!"
2) Wow, that is so cool. Stay there and get the lot of them.

To date I get around 75% #2 and the rest #1, but I ask you if YOU think this is a useful thing for one member of an alien team to do?

It really depends on whats happening. If its game start, sure. If its midgame and you're winning, sure, especially on Classic because you're stopping any ninja phases since every marine is lit up on the map. In CO, its good for spotting any ninja marine who might be planning to mine the hive or spawncamp with serious weaponry.

However if you're losing, then you're probably better off attacking the rines. If the rest of the team have any skill tho you should probably keep para'ing since its a free version of SoF.

Against good rines you won't have time for dozens and dozens parasite hits!

I suggest, you better parasite them the normal way (first ranged contact) and even try to distract them to give nearby ambushing skulks a better chance for being not/later recognized.

At least you got the nice attitude to do something for your team by parasiting!
That's not common

Id say keep going for it. Specially if theres a few aliens.
What I dont like to see is in small games of 5 aliens, 1 or 2 with cloaking sitting in the base, waiting for the rest of us to get kills so they can leech.

Keep at it, having an advanced scout for the aliens is awesome. Having marines parasited always make decent aliens better I mean wouldn't you play better with knowledge of where your enemy is? Plus, a parasited marine is a dead marine, unless he has heavy armor.

I always say...if it feels good, do it.

Parasite is a great thing in regular NS... but in co_?

You are really cheating yourself if you don't learn to make yourself better at the game. Use co_ as a training tool for regular NS. That is, kill stuff.

I think you should get some experience points or whatever you call them for parasiting marines. Just a small amount, I mean, you're doing your team a service.. Although, then people will go, "OMGZ JUST GET TEH SENT OF PH34R, ITS TEH LEEETEST!!!!1one"

If the rest of the team is annoyed along with you, tell them to wait outside the marine base, far enough away that the cloaked aliens won't get xp from the kills.

Well first of all it helps your teammates a lot; especially if they didn't get scent of fear yet. And you can see a parasited marine from farther away than one you can see with scent of fear. So if you don't mind doing it, and its getting you a #1 to #2 ranking then uh DUH yeah keep doing it, thats a no brainer, why even ask anybody about it? Oh and be wary of pro-marine posters; they'll say anything to get skulks to stop parasiting them because they hate it. It's annoying to them. And then theres death by parasite which always brings anguish to the victims and laughter to the non-participants.

note who doesnt have resupply.

hit them repeatedly

(this works best when you have a group staying in MS looking for you)

I love doing this too.

I only do it on co_kestrel, though.

I once got booted from a server because I parasited so many marines and they couldn't find me, so they assumed I was exploiting.

I'm not telling you where I hid

silverwolf mentioned in his guide for beginning players that parasiting is a skill that should always be used. SO USE IT

para has no loss, only gain. Always para.

you dmg them before you are near them, if you die you and buddies can still track them. And lets all vote for the option to make a cara hit give XP (the first hit)
• SLizerSLizer Join Date: 2003-11-07 Member: 22363Members, Constellation
definetly para should be exp giver
• Bob_hackrBob_hackr Join Date: 2004-09-20 Member: 31817Members
It's a good tool for the start of the game when rines try to be sneaky and think they can hide. It also lets your team keep track of rines and see if any are going to be endangering your hive. use it basically.

BUT don't just camp the rine base doing that one thing for the length of the game or a good deal of it.

I always get scent of fear as soon as possible. It's a huge advantage and doesn't need anyone parasiting marines to work. (Also can't be countered unlike cloak.)

sof can be useful but i find other upgrades can definately be more effective.
• SLizerSLizer Join Date: 2003-11-07 Member: 22363Members, Constellation
Why not give para somekind of exp bonus?
• j3stj3st Join Date: 2004-06-28 Member: 29602Members
if u r suggesting getting exp every time u para someone, then that's the equivalent of marines getting exp every time he hits an alien with pistol.

if u r suggesting getting exp for para-ing a marine for the first time, it would have to be very small as it is plainly too simple to accomplish. so small that it is not worth considering in fact.

i agree it would be good for encouraging team-play to help out other aliens but it just doesn't help balancing at all.
