For all of you who wanted story...
See, the original FFXI had a lot of story, it just took a lot of work to get to the bulk of it.
Well, with the expansion pack Chains of Promathia, that changes. Now, there are 3 times as much story in the game, as well as so many story-based side quests its crazy. And also, its not just for high-levels- lvl 20+ can get involved. The bulk of them are level 30-40, and their even toting that just going through the lvl 30-40 quests can level you all the way to 45 off of just them!(which is a LOT).
The story revolves around many things: Vana'D'Iel is slowly ripping itself apart in its own time and space fabric. Around this same time, a Young Dark Youth, named the "Enigmatic Youth"(Enigmatic: Square's new word!), shows up in front of Adventurers, stirring trouble and unrest everywhere he goes. Also, the Wyrmking, Bahamut, finally comes, heralding the beginning of the 2nd Great War. But will this be a real war, or a underground war? And what will be of the 3 nations, of which both Sandoria and Windurst are so weak right now they cannot even protect their own borders, and Bastok getting overly-cocky in their ways? Are we approaching the end to the seperate nations? Are we beginning the new age of Jeuno? And what is of the Airship Armada?
This is all just a PIECE of the stuff I've read about it. And ALL of it- everything- amazes me. I hope to see a lot of you online(server is Valefor), especially now that the story is getting so heavy.

Too bad no new classes. Dont know what they could add though.
After you beat rank 6 you can do zilart missions(1st expansion) which also later on introduces Crystal warriors (Ark Angels) they look like a evil verison of all the races in ff11 and a nice story line with that. Chains Of Promathia missions might be really interesting as well. If anyone wants to see a preview video of Chains Of Promathia (Looks like it's from cut scenes in game) click here scroll down a bit click preview under "Chains of Promathia Preview Video Released!"
Actually, their gearing up for a patch that *should* include 2 more classes. The ol' Blue Mage(who at low levels will be VERY weak, but by about level 45, begins becoming a master of its own craft), as well as another we don't exactly know about at the moment. <3
But they are almost sure that in one of the next 2 patches 2 classes will be introduced, side by side.
The exp system may be the only reason why I might leave and go back to UO.

You'll end up liking that system. Just understand why. Believe me, its NOT a problem.
lol
Sam/Rdm
or
Rdm/Sam?
I was a blm/whm sub and I got tons of party invites cus of the uber dmg I did but still I thought the higher up levels were really lacking in contect of stuff to do =/
So many things you can do at high levels
Fight sea horror
Try to fight Kirin but die
Fight fenrir
Try to fight King Behemoth but die
Try to do Dynamis but lag to death
Play guard
Fish
When you try to find a party for 30 minutes and nobody wants to party or you just can't find one. Then you can't lvl, no lvl means you're not getting closer to anything new and getting nothing new is boring.
Whats your job/subjob? Do you have up to date gear (At least most of your gear). Do you use food? What level are you?
lvl 17 rdm
Mostly all lizard armor, legionares headgear
Aegis shield
Xiphos is my sword i think...11 something damage
food from what i've found is useless
usless because it takes too long to make or it's too costly
is this true ? would be a real bummer if I had to go through all that importing stuff again.
My name is Eyde. i'm a MNK/WAR lvl 21 , on the fenrir server.
I'm really looking forward to chains of promethia. those new area's are amazing.
( goblin village ftw )
Sure you could play a drk/war and probably do more damage than a rng if you are good but you're still going to end up waiting 40+ minutes for a party unless you are in a perm group. I haven't played in over a month *sigh* I might have to uninstall.
With good reason, I ALMOST quit and I'm just level 11. Some things are just lame.
This game is easily the best MMO I've ever played, even though it takes time to get it going.
And btw: Getting sniper rings/hauberk isn't THAT bad. Its expensive, sure, but by the time your able to wear it, you can just go kill random NMs and STILL make enough money fast enough. I've got lvl 40 friends buying their lvl 50 armor just so they'll have something to wear while doing AF.
Just remember: If you didn't like FFXI because it didn't have much story compared to the others, you'll like this. If you just don't like MMORPGs, this will not probably change your opinion.
Sorry for DBL post, but this is something a lot of my friends in game are worried about, but really, it all depends on server. What I've found though, is at higher levels, parties seem to be going around more, trying different things, but thats because people at about lvl 45 are making static parties and just leveling with those till 75 so that their leveling is ensured. Static parties seem to be what everyone is doing on my server, and its almost inspiring. I know one PT that has everything almost scripted(I don't mean in the macros- I mean it looks like their being choreographed) their so perfectly in tune with eachother. The WHM can time exactly when to do hard heals(cure V or stronger[right after voke]), the SATA'd WS are perfectly timed with the Dark Knight's Guillotine, its just...inspiring.
Try getting in a static

But static parties are SO restrictive, I mean I as a key member in my LS and like 3rd in command we formed a static party and since I had to work everyday I fell behind, even though it was a good LS and I was a pretty important member people were still not willing to level only 2 hours a day.
I mean unless you have a lot of time to commit lvl 50+ you have to to be a pal or a whm or you'll never find a pt and that's what bothered me
Everyone gets on whenever. But no one- at all- levels. They'll go farm, level another job, something like that. But they DON'T TOUCH that main job. They usually do things with their other static members. Then whenever they feel like leveling and everyone is there, BAM they level and usually get a level a day at level 64 or higher. Thats like....Godly fast.
