<div class="IPBDescription">RANDOMOSITY!</div> Well, every time I boot up my computer it seems I have about 100 megs either free or full, (The reading fluctuates between 24.7 gigs free and 24.6 gigs free) is this pretty normal? Also, anyonw know why DXDIAG is giving me 'Program Detected a problem in DirectPlay last time program was run, ignore this?' Everything I have that includes DirectPlay works just fine, also I HAVE done a complete virus/adware/spyware check and found nadda.

Its more likely an error in the drives trunkation programing than actually the loss or gain of 100 megs of space. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes a lot more signfigant and knowticeble (several hunderd megs of difference, or gigs dissapearing)

    Virtual Memory?

Theres a file (I think Windows calls it the Pagefile) that normally sits in your c: drive. It acts like a poor man's RAM (an extremely poor man), and you should have it unless you have an extremely large amount of RAM. Depending on the circumstances, Windows may decide to allocate more space for this (Bigger pagefile) or less space (Smaller pagefile). This may cause your free space to seemingly go up and down on its own. You can set its max and min size in My Comp>Properties>Advanced>Performance>Advanced>Virtual Mem.

You should definately set your min/max size yourself, and to the same value. 1.5 to 2 times your ram amount is good.

Asking Windows to do anything itself is asking for it. Plus if your page file is permanant, it's much more likely to be contiguous and unfragmented.
