ah, I guess I shouldn't be upset about missing it, if it was just for a week or two and then the chars get nuked... I'd hate to have put 2 weeks into building a char just to have him zapped

Yeah, and mine to coil's roommate's friend or something.
Didn't want to get addicted, and then have it disappear one day.

I had no idea it was ending though. I thought it was gonna go on for a few weeks or so :O

Oh well, I've already played enough to know I am definately buying this, when before I was planning not to. Damn you blizzard and your successful creation of an mmorpg set in a universe I'm in love with :O

Is it a level-treadmill ? Any NPC camping ? FUll of exploits/duping/macros ? Uber rares for the ebay'ers ?
• CronosCronos Join Date: 2002-10-18 Member: 1542Members
Level Treadmill: Not exactly. You need a certain level to take on certain monsters and you need certain levels to be able to take on quests and such but equipment factors in heavily as well and grouping up with 5 other people is far more effective then soloing at level 50.

NPC Camping: Only if there are a lot of others on the same quest.

Exploits et al: None that I'm aware of but it still is beta so there are probably exploits still to be buffed away in a tide of polish. Despite being beta though, it feels like a full game regardless.

Not sure what you mean by uber rare for ebayers though.

I may also hasten to add that the only ones whining about the Beta being extended are those that are on top and have to lose sleep/jobs to keep on top to win the closed beta positions. A majority of players are overjoyed at the extension.

Also, I wouldnt be so quick to name the greater part of the WoW community as immature. Everyone I've grouped with so far has been excellent and help messages are usually quickly answered.

he means items that are only dropped like .1% of the time, by the hardest monster in the game, who himself only spawns once every month or something :>

I'm exaggerating but you get the picture. Items like that in Ultima Online STILL go for literally THOUSANDS of dollars on e-bay. hey, that gives me an idea... wonder if you could sell an item like that and then follow the guy you sold it to, kill him, and take it back

As for the level treadmill . . . well, let me put it this way, and I know it's going to sound stupid: the game has too much content.

That is, the most effective way to level is via questing, and there are tons of quests. On paper, that sounds absolutely fabulous, and I suppose it is for people with no lif - well, no "outside obligations." The problem is that there are far more than enough quests for any given level range, so much so that deciding which quests you want to do is a rather difficult affair. The insane amount of content also makes it difficult to find a good stopping point, which is a crucial thing for me now that I need to focus real attention on classes.

The overall effect was that I would spend hours bouncing between quests in areas far from each other, paying little to no attention to how much time it was taking out of my schedule. That in turn caused me to miss more than a few lectures, which I'm paying for now with more than a few hours of lost sleep every night as I try to catch up.

In short, if you have no "outside obligations," by all means, play this game - it's the best MMOG I've ever played. Just keep in mind that the best MMOG ever leaves little room for many, if any, other activities.

I never wanted to try to win the competition, I looked at this as a way to explore characters i would be interested in playing when it goes gold.

Does this mean that a public beta stages is approaching or will we be seeing another phase of closed beta?

Im getting ansty to play it, listening to everyone rave about it and also checking out all the screenshots.

another phase of closed beta during the stress test they ran a contest and now the 3 highest level characters from each class from each faction from each server (total about 500 something people) are moving on to join the other closed beta testers

The biggest problem I had with MMORGs was the elitism. It took ordinary gaming arrogance and distilled it by adding very rare items. I played Anarchy Online for a year or so, and became powerful. However, Anarchy Online did have the very rare items that separated the haves and have-nots. It was infruiating and simply encouraged the idiots. It also had the insanely high spawn rates, and in the end was simply stupid. Does WoW suffer from super rare spawns and items ? From my experience of DII, very rare items weren't the fixed rares, but the gold rares that had the right combination of features. Is this more like WoW ?

As I understand it, the best items in WoW will be player-made. (:
