Red Dwarf Fans?

<div class="IPBDescription">Anyone?</div> Hey guys..

I was looking through my loft this morning and found 40+ marked video tapes.. Thinking what they were, i stuck one in my VCR and found out it was my Red Drawf collection.

If you don't know what Red dwarf is, it is one of the most successful Sci-Fi comedies from England ever, especially for computer geeks and nerds. It's became such a hit that it gets regular conventions over in the states with big geek-type gatherings.

The story and stuff can be found <a href='http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/' target='_blank'>here.</a>

Well anyway, i was curious if any of you NS forumers are great fans of the show and if you have any favourite episodes, characters ETC.

I enjoyed it until it eventually jumped the shark. It's so long ago, though, that I can't remember which series that happened...I think it's when it was no longer the original cast.

Red Dwarf was so great, plus the fact that some of the monsters and SFX were so low budget (intentional or not) just added to the humour.

watched it through to the last episode of series 8, and then they stopped making more. Waiting for the Red Dwarf Movie, hopefully then they will make a new series after.

Yeah, I enjoy Red Dwarf. Especially Rimmer and those oh-so-special times when Ace Rimmer is around.

She's no Rimmer, also, she's completely different from the original Kochanski.

Sure, that could be explained by the fact she came from a different dimension, but that doesn't change the fact that she's the worst character ever.

Also, with season VII and VIII they changed the entire way the show was made. Before bad, tacky models were used for Red Dwarf and Starbug, everything was laughably low-budget, and that's what made it great. After they pumped loads of money and CGI into it and even changed the whole set of Starbug i believe, it just didn't feel like Red Dwarf as it used to be.

On the other hand, the new Bazookoids are much better than the old ones. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    <i>He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer
Without him life would be much grimmer
He's handsome trim, and no-one slimmer
He will never need a zimmer.</i>

    Extract from the Rimmer Song

Lister: The red, green, and blue alert signs are all flashing! What the smeg is happening?
Kryten: Well, either we're under attack, sir, or we're having a disco.

    Classic show. Don't think theres a single person in England who doesn't like Red Dwarf <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Esuna has a point here, and its the same reason why Star Wars will never feel the same, along with Dr.Who.

Yeah. Used to on weekends I'd have a mini British marathon on PBS and watch episodes of Black Adder, Red Dwarf, and Dr. Who one right after the other. 'Twas good times. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Series 1-6, then 8, were great. Series 7 wasn't all that good because Rimmer just completes the whole thing. Lister, Kryten and the Cat are good by themselves but they need Rimmer to insult (and be insulted by), otherwise it just feels unfinished. And i never liked the Kochanski character.

Favourite none-main-character character from series 8: KillCrazy. He rocks. Like that bit where he's getting all worked up about the Canary mission, starts screaming, then knocks himself out on the bulkhead. Class.

yeah, back when it was mostly dialogues between rimmer and lister it was gold...

I think the reasons series seven onwards sucked was mainly because of the loss of one of the writers, coupled with kachanski and cat having nothing amusing to say despite being in every single scene.
It went all weirdy drama-sci fi at that point and lost alot of its humour.
But the earlier series were so funny.

The remarks about the likeness to Krytens head as "A mutated cut potato" and "A wrecked head of a crash test dummie" are quite comical.
