And I'll link the pics here, instead of using image tags, because each image is about 400kb in size [sorry].

I built it with my dad [well, my dad built it and I helped <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->]. If we could do it again, we would probably choose to build it from wood - this manufactured one was expensive, crappy, didn't fit together, etc etc. A lot of hassle, and it took about 14 hours total to build. What's not shown in the pictures are the plants i just put in there, two logs for them to sit on, a box for me to sit on, and a giant cuttlefish.

I just thought some of you might like to see it. I'm happier, and the budgies [geel piet [yellow aust male] and bella [blue english female] seem to be happier. Well, piet is anyway. Bella is just a leech.. gragh. Damn you not breeding, frigid budgie! I want to get rid of her and get another <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Woah nice. I'm sure they appreciate all the extra space. I had a few in my old AP Biology class. However they had this penchant of aggravating each other (there were three) and then making a big racket during tests. Not fun. However, if we covered the cage with a tarp, they went quiet immediately. Birds are interesting creatures. Too bad they can't really be tamed.

    They do get loud in groups, yeah. And speaking of tarps, I had to put one over the wire last night so they didn't freeze to death.

    And you can tame birds! They can come when you call, you can teach them to climb up onto your finger/shoulder/etc on command, and they can become good friends. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> You can teach them to talk [mimic you] and there are cases of budgies [and other parrots, etc] of learning to talk in context.

    I snapped a few more photos before the batteries ran out, so here they are.

    Oh, this looks good. A box to sit on, a big cuttlefish bone, seed, two branches, a pot [of dying greens. I can't seem to transplant them without them dying immediately after??].

    How disappointing, I was hoping of something more along the lines of <a href='http://www.battle.net/war3/human/buildings/aviary.shtml' target='_blank'>this</a>. :P

    I want a Griffon Aviary... although I don't think you can ride on budgies.

    Well, maybe if you glued like thirty budgies to you, you might hover a little bit.

    This doesn't work, I haven't had a chance to try canaries yet though.

    300kb

    I could make the griffon aviary thing, I guess. Are we talking a miniature model with carved wood, or a cage with that design?

    Budgies FTW!

    My family used to own some. Of course we always set them free. They should already be dead by now thouh <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    But yeah...those were the days....twas 11 years ago or something. My dad used to make it chase after me whenever he let it out of the cage hehe XD

    So yeah, that's that.

    BTW, nice aviary there. Nice and rather roomy for those birds. Hope you take good care of them XD

    I do take good care of them, no need to worry <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    And if you mean that you let your budgies out into the wild, "set them free", then there's about a 90% chance they wouldn't survive the first week.

    Ohnoes... How cruel. (For not making a video of your attempt to show to the world!)

    ------------------------------------------------------

    If you made a Griffon Aviary out of wood that is large enough to house that aviary you already built, that would be incredible.

    I'd even be compelled to pay you, with my non-existant monies.

    Well it wouldn't be the size of the aviary - too bulky, and I'd have nowhere to put it.

    It'd be about two of those yellow boxes stacked on top of eachother. That would be the space inside of the cage, and the outside would have all the design stuff of the griffon aviary, etc. It would fit about two to three budgies.

    What happens when it rains?

    Do cats or other predators every try and get in?

    What's a cuttlefish?

    How do you get out without the budgies escaping?

    *Yes, im Mr. Questions. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Yeah FTW is a cuttlefish?

    I wanna see someone throw a few cats in there.

    When it rains, the budgies go near the roof and at the back. It's colder, but they'll survive. [It's better than in-the-wild living]

    Mynah birds, butcher birds, bigger birds, etc try to swoop them, but cats etc can't get in [the bottom is concrete and it's all secure], neither can the birds. There is a lot of space so there's little chance of a cat/bird poking an extremity in and killing them.

    A cuttlefish is a sea animal [crustacean or something], and what I get is the cuttlefish bone, off the dead animal [they turn up on beaches]. The budgies gnaw at it so they trim down their beaks etc. It performs much the same function as grit.

    I get in/out through a small door [half the height of the cage] on the right side. I keep the door closed as much as possible when I enter, and try and take up as much space with my body, and do it quickly. Mostly they will just sit down normally, and I'll try and scare them off to the other side of the cage if they're near. I'm thinking of putting some netting in etc for when I breed some more budgies.

    If you need clarification of anything, ask and I'll explain, or even take some more pics.
