<div class="IPBDescription">But i think this beta is pretty balanced</div> well, topic says it all. ive been playing on servers where the teams are usually even skill wise, and i must say, the game can shift either way. no one strategy or life form is powerful enough to win the game on it's own, and i find myself looking for new strategy's, rather than just the good ole pressure control lockdown, or station access reloc. i think the Devs have done an amazing job with this beta and i must say, my only gripes are with a few map issues. but theyre easy to fix, and i await beta 6 with baited breath.

Yeah, you're right and all, except the fact that since playing B5, as an alien, I've never won a game (except a 2 on 2, but that don't count).

But I just wish that things were done to help aliens in larger games. It has been ignored for too long now, something <b>has got to be done</b> about marine dominance in bigger NS games. An easy fix would be to just decrease the amount of time between res ticks per alien player on the team. So if there are 10 alien players, the time between the resources getting one resource would be noticably shorter then 6 alien players.

but yer its better then it was, but registery ftw. beta5 is the new lag mod, everyone is complaining about **** reg, like i get a bit annoyed when i shoot the skulk 3 times with SG and he dont die, and no i didnt miss ty.
But bah, I haven't played much Combat so I don't know.

wow, your team must suck, either that or you got blind, i have won as ailen many a times in 5v5 to 9v9 in b5, its not ecactly 75% of the time but its a good 40%-30% of the time ailens win.

Remember that balance doesn't equate to fun. They are seperate entities, both of which need to be in a game.
I believe the latest patch has reduced the fun but increased the balance. This doesn't of course have to be the case. You can have fun AND balance. But in this case, games seem to be MUCH shorter, much more random who wins, and much more predictable once a side 'starts' losing. Which is less fun. But more balanced.
I've played damn near every server on the list, from a newbie help server to a server filled with people I see here all the time. But I do agree, just because it can be balenced doesn't mean it is going to be fun.
Really, REALLY sick of it.
Sure, for the other team in an unbalanced game, it's really fun playing.
But for the team that gets the short end of the stick, it's really not fun at all.
Just now, I've played commander, my marines could rack up a 1:1 ratio, they followed orders to the best of their extent, and we won.
It was a fun, quick game, no drawing anything out, and very balanced, in that the marines had new, but responsive marines, while half the alien team had clanners.
In short, everybody had fun, everybody followed orders, the orders were obeyed, the battle was won.
The centralized command of a field leader and obedient marines will always trump a disorganized horde of weaker fighters.
Remove weaker from the equation, and we just might have something interesting.
I mean right now NS is a game for the pubbers, clan play is really small in comparision to the mass of players it has and I think the games becoming more and more closer for "averaged" skilled players but when it comes to highly skilled players the balance shifts. so its hard because of the huge learning curve of NS , do you make it not fun untill you become really good, or do you make it fun when everyone sucks but unbalanced when both teams are really good? its a tuff questions
I personally would like to see the competive scene in NS grow a lot and more people become really good players

That could be due to the fact that NS is balanced between 5v5 and 8v8 as being playably balanced. Lower gets more Alien-centric, and higher *quickly* goes Marine-sided. A 16v16 server? Marine win is pretty obvious, even with unskilled players.
Maybe co is more balanced I guess.
A more balanced game doesn't automatically become more fun (or less fun).
A less balanced game doesn't automatically become more fun (or less fun).
However, I would argue that a SHORTER game is less fun, but more balanced.
Just like a coin toss.
Think about it in the extreme sense: what if, when NS game started, it tossed a coin, and declared one side or the other (50% chance) insta winner.
Balanced? You betcha. Both sides have exactly 50% chance of winning.
Short? Of course. under a second per game.
Fun? Not at all.
My point is that the current sate of things, due to spawn rules, spawn-as-skulk, and other stuff, has increased 'balance' but its done it by making it more of a coin toss - whatever happens in the first ~ 1 minute determines the outcome, just about every time... inevetably.
This is less fun, but more balanced. Its not less fun BECAUSE its more balanced, it just so happens that it is balanced (like a coin toss is), yet less fun (due to the extremely short times), for the above reasons.
1.04 wasn't out long enough for people to realize that it sucked balance-wise and when beta 2 came out, people started complaining about alien's advantage while failing to notice that marines were über-powerful in 1.04.
