This Is Driving Me Insane!

My monitor is making a high-pitched squealing noise, it just started a few days a go and I had no clue what was making the noise but now I know, since when I turn it off, it stops.

What should I do? Why is my monitor squealing like that, it's relatively new, about two years old. Gaaaaah! Driving me craaaaazy!!!

    ahahahaha welcome to my world

Turn it off and on a few times. That'll fix it. Degauss as well..

Nothing really you can do about it.

    Except hit it..

Yea I got that too. It mysteriously started after I reformatted,
but mine only squeaks whenever I switch to something like 800x600 or 640x480 like when playing diablo 2 or something like that.

It isn't that bad. Just switch on some music, and you'll forger about it in no time.

so i guess it's not actually bad for the monitor? I've had this a few times too. Just turning it off and on again solves it but i wasn't sure if that was healthy.

I had this problem, too with my old monitor, and i even called the hotline, what to do about it ^^, so yeay, i can provide you some info:

So, the problem you experience is that youll hear the electrons ^^ one of the magnet conductors inside you monitor has broken and somehow the coherent ray inside the particle gun (now idea of the technical enlish words) is a little of. For you to get a clear view, there is some sort of (disk with hole in it) between the first and second magnet.
You brokenthe first one, this causes the lighly higher volatege to teh gun to remain the outgoing ray as strong as before and you ehr the astry electrons hitting the small metal disk.
After this is broke, the tech department said, teh remaining lifetime of the monitor is approx 5 yearsm, spo you should be fine ^^

    i hope this helps

It will never go away, only tease you with temporary silence... I speak from experience. Luckily my monitor was still under warrenty and they replaced it right away.

    You need a new monitor.

There just so happens to be a article in the most recent PCWorld mag about this. To fix it, change your monitor refresh rate to 72 Hertz or above. Also, give it a good whack on the side (seriously).

Yeah I had to replace my old one because the squeal that my monitor produced sent my cats into tantrums. One of them just sort of went limp when hearing it, the other started making a racket. Not to mention me, I'm surprised I didn't go deaf from a sound many octaves too high and too loud for its own good. If this starts up again, which it probably will, a new monitor might be your only option. 'Cept I dunno why it is happening to yours since it is only 2 years old. Mine was nearly 5.
