"AvP: Natural Selection Forum Open - [4:47 by Sadogoat]
We've just opened a new Forum for the discussion of the forthcoming X-Box title, Aliens Versus Predator: Natural Selection (despite the fact there is currently very little information on it - but hey, consider it "thinking ahead"). You can find this Forum here (you need to be a registered Forum user to participate)."

*found on www.avpnews.com*

just a little thought I got when I saw it, it might start to get confusing...

    We should hog tie them sons of ####### and beat the with a stick! But really tho, that would get kinda annoying and confusing, someone should do something about it like write a letter.

    why would they have to do that? It's 2 totally different games.There are other games with almost the same title, like er. can't think of any but i'm sure there are

    I can think of one game from a number of years ago called Natural selection, it involved breeding weird creatures or something.....but if the AVP people knew about about the Natural Selection mod and went ahead with their naming of this upcoming game, that's kind of blatant defiance, considering both games run the same basic timeline/game universe. If they didn't know about NS, well then, they are not very into the gaming community, or have really bad people researching this sort of thing. My opinion.

    maybe they just had the "plot" for the game for a long time and decided that no other name woudl fit better with this game.

    As Cyon said, If these people knew about NS before they went and did that, it makes me sick. Especially considering the way a lot of people try to stereotype NS as just another AvP clone, when that couldn't be further from the truth. It would really hurt if there was actually an AvP game <i>called</i> Natural Selection.  <!--emo&:angry:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'><!--endemo-->  <!--emo&:angry:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'><!--endemo-->

    hmm yeah, but that's only to the untrained eye, as soon as they actually played both games, well NS, they'll see it are 2 different games, besides check the records to see who's first, why, that would be NS
  • realityisdeadrealityisdead Employed by Raven Software after making ns_nothing Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 94Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    That would be really nice, but in reality most people wouldn't even bother if that's what they thought... Would you go and download something that you thought was just another CS clone? If you would just to give them a chance (or have a really fast internet connection and are bored), that's great, but most people wouldn't.

    It makes me cringe when some people already see NS as an AvP clone, and then they are going to have this to throw in our faces. It's maddening.

    You keep forgetting the copyrighting and trademarking of Natural Selection, the game, by Flayra.

    For once, Fox might get Foxed.

    Out foxing fox that would be ace publicity.  But I suspect Flayra would rather take the cash.  I would.

    Heh, I've already thought of sending Bob after Gates. I'm training him now. That's a lot of security to get past.

    And I just have ta say a few things:

    The two universes/timelines are -not- the same... if they were, we'd be getting sued.

    And knowing that Fox keeps an eye on the mod world (I think they once shut down a mod for being an Aliens rip-off.) I wouldn't be all that surprised to learn that they knew about this mod when they named the game.

    Apparently it's being developed by the creators of the original AvP... At least that's what I gather. They apparently weren't too pleased about the quality of AvP2 and want to make up for it and reclaim the developing rights to AvP again... or something.

    Well, then offer them to do a SP mode for NS! That way they may even improve their standards <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    As they should be. I tried the AVP 2 Demo today, when I woke up (2pm..heh heh.) because I had been KoK (King Of the Kill)on gamespy in AVP 1, and I found the new skills and graphics to be grand...but I found that, even on the LOWEST settings, the game LAGGED, I mean LITERALLY LAGGED, on the singleplayer demo, EVERY SINGLE TIME I saw anything moving. Needless to say, this caused me to take massive damage in the game. Thankfully, there were health packs for my marine time and heads for my Alien time. I mean, my computer is from 1998 and it lagged my computer...while it was set on "Lowest" graphic settings...After I had restarted my computer...So..basically, it was CRAP on my system. However, I do like how they made the aliens faster, gave them a lunge attack, added crosshairs so you could get decent headbites fast, made toggle-able walk/run, wallclimb, and crouch..and how they increased the alien's endurance to damage..but, still..the lag ruined the damn game. No game should EVER lag on single player mode. Especialy so badly that you have to wait a literal minute to see what has happened.

    Did your machine meet the minimum specs?
  • pielemuispielemuis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 72Members, NS1 Playtester
    yep sounds like your computer hasn't got the juice, i didn't even try the demo, cuz i don't meet the minimum system reqs.

    Hmm...Flayra vs. Fox.  It's really doubtful anything productive would come out of that.  Yeah, the mod's copyrighted, but we don't have any lawyers or a bunch of money.  Fox, on the other hand, does, so bringing a suit to them probably wouldn't harvest very good results.

    That's why it's so great NS is using the HL engine. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    I've tried AvP2 once in multiplayer on my m8s LAN, and after half an hour I finally became as good as him and used the predalien guy to eatz0rz him. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    ewww, silleh me. Forgot to read page three of this thread before now.

    Anyway, thinking about foxing makes me mad as I was really looking forward to this really cool X-com mod that got foxed. I'm sooooooooooo happeh that NS won't have that problem. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Well, the Minimum specs should cover a computer from 98..Afterall, all the other new games work fine with my computer. The thing is, if my Computer didn't fit Foxes Minimum specs, then that was their fault for not compiling the game to be compatible with all types of computers up to ten years old.

    Nah, comp from last fall. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
  • JedisarJedisar Join Date: 2002-03-03 Member: 264Awaiting Authorization
    Fox screwed up AVP 2 by not making it compatible with my comp..much like when Gamespy bought out Mplayer, I couldn't play AVP 1 on multiplayer anymore because Gamespy wasn't configured to read it off a 98 machine correctly, then they tweaked something that made it impossible for me to play it on that computer.

    Can't afford one. It will just be easier to go through the lobby of Fox Interactive Matrix Style, then put them out of my suffering.
