<div class="IPBDescription">the movies...</div> I feel weird like I'm the only one in the NS community that hasn't seen these. Now I know where "GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER!" came from!

The 2 best sci-fi movies, ever. Ok, so Star Wars is the best but whatever. I definetely liked the 2nd one more, because it reminded me of NS so much. The only thing that bothered me was the little girl. I mean, they are crawling through a ventilation shaft shooting aliens with cool guns intense music playing and then this little girl starts screaming.
But nevermind that.
If you havn't seen these, DO IT. Make sure not to get them mixed up, Alien is the FIRST one.

Pointless trivia time: ns_bast was originally going to be ns_nostromo, which explains the aliens style areas and most of the textures being prefixed with nos_.
too bad Alien 3 and 4 wernt as good in my opinion.
ALIENS was another of those movies that was severely screwed by the "oh we are the produing movie company and we say you must hack 45 min of footage before you release it" deals. Notice how Ripley asks Cpl.Hicks about the underslung grenade launcher in the scene right after he tells her what it is? b/c a longer scene where he describes the pulse rifle is edited out in most versions.
So depending on which version you saw you might have seen What happens to Newt's father at the beginning of ALIENS or misc scenes with the sentry turrets firing at the aliens etc.
Edit: I know 3 and 4 weren't that great but at least it's not as bad as another franchise *coughstarwarseppisode1and2cough*
Alien Ressurection, however, is an utter sham that I wouldn't reccommend to my worst enemies.
Resurrection was cool because of the colourful characters and good action scenes. It wasn't the best of the 4 obviously (alien and aliens can't be beat XD ) but it's better than "we're all prisoners who'll die... please care... please?" =P
Oh and I think muppets in space (aka starwars) is trounced by aliens and predator films in the sci-fi stakes... I love being controversial ^~

That said, Aliens IS the best sci-fi/horror movie ever. <_<
Aliens3 was ok, but it kind of ripped it's own soul out by getting rid of Hicks and Newt like that, and most of the characters were pretty crap as well, although the action scenes in the Leadworks facility were cool.
Resurrection went even farther than Alien3 and completely threw ANY resemblance with the first 3 movies bar the aliens and Ripley. I mean, at least keep "The Company".
Ah well. Here's hoping for an Aliens 5 directed by Ridley Scott or James Cameron.

I can't believe you've just said Alien Ressurection is better than Alien 3. Perhaps you have to know the mostly British cast of Alien 3 to truly be interested in the characters, but come on, it features Charles Dance! Charles <i>Dance!</i>. Ressurection is celluoid mastrubation, the French director tripping over his own feet to cram scenes with pointless drivel and pseudo-class. David Fincher, on the other hand, had quite excellent ideas for Alien 3, especially for such a young director. However, if you watch the extras of the Alien Quadrilogy then you'll see Fox treated him like dirt, and in the end his vision was bastardised by clueless producers.
The version I saw without the extras however is the <b>only</b> movie in all my life I've actually fallen asleep during. To show you how dramatic this is; I managed to watch ice-age from start to finish easily without being drowsy despite not having slept for the 3 days prior to walking into the cinema. Alien 3 on the other hand I'd been plenty rested for and I caught myself nodding off a couple of times before lapsing into full unconsciousness ^^;
I had to watch it a second time to catch the whole thing and I still found it rather dull =P
It's not the worst movie I've seen, don't get me wrong. Alien 3 is ok but it's just really frigging boring.
A bad film would be Blair witch project 2: Book of shadows, which was so violently crud I wanted my money back or Deep Impact which was so shallow and disinteresting that nobody in the cinema was watching it anymore by the end; they'd all started talking to each other and messing about the aisles =3
But meh, Alien Quadrilogy Boxset owns my soul.
They are first class material!!My fave films...Im going out to get the quadrilogy as soon as i get enough money.....

Well, I shouldn't laugh, but I just did to myself. You do realise where the term "being FOX'ed" comes from, in terms of mod development? Fox are notoriously bastardish about other people using their licenses, especially those offering an experience free-of-charge.
Best of luck, but I don't quite think you'll be the magical lucky mod team that get the greenlight.
Alien Resurrection is a much MUCH better conventional novel.. in fact you can ALMOST forget its a horrible mutant spawn of several graphic novels...
