I can't connect to Half-Life/Natural Selection servers from here at college, but I have briefly had a look at the game (without any other players) and built some structures.
After building some offensive chambers as an alien, I rejoined as a marine and went to look at them. They fired at me, but did not cause any damage. I stood completely still, even walked right up to the alien turrets. Not a single hit.
I was running DEV at the time, and came up with the error "got too low a velocity on spitgunspit", and "got too high a velocity on spitgunspit".
The marine turrets functioned fine when I tested them out as an alien.
I gather that a lot of players complain about the uselessness of alien turrets; perhaps this is connected?
Also I notice some players complaining that the structures are difficult/impossible to damage. Perhaps this is because the only place that many (all?) structures are vulnerable is at the centre of their base (where they meet the ground). Maybe it would help if, especially as aliens, it was not necessary to hit the base of a structure - instead the whole structure could be made vulnerable (which would make more sense).
I really look forward to playing this game, especially if I can ever find enough people for a LAN game.
