I'm still unclear about what this means in relation to when HL2 will be out, but it sure isn't helping D:

    Wow, thanks for posting this <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. I found it interesting enough.

From what I read valve seems to be a little FISHY to me. GLUB GLUB

Although sierra isnt much better by trying to force valve into working with them in the future as well. And the wheels turn!

Ahhh, I understand the reasons for all valves delays now. They wern't trying to screw the customer or the dedicated CS fan over at all, they were trying to screw over sierra all along <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Despite lawsuits, Vivindi is in such financial trouble (and w/o making a product in 5 years Valve can't be too hot for cash either) that they'll most likely agree to sell it now, get the money, then fight over who actually owns what they're selling later...

Turtle Rock Stuidos/Raven Software made that, they also got it handed to them.

EDIT: My point was that they've been at least selling new products in the last five years.

Why is Vivendi in financial trouble though? I thought they were a massive company with games as a small part of their portfolio. This could explain though why it's rumored that World of Warcraft is being rushed out by Christmas (if you've been following the beta testing, there's no chance in hell it's gonna be ready by December).

I agree it won't at all. Both Valve and Vivendi would have to be mental to delay HL2 for much longer or they'll lose all the holidy sales, and we all know its about the money in the long run for them anyways.

Nonetheless it would be a horrible travesty for Vivendi to win the rights to halflife. God knows what they would do with it. I much prefer it where it is now, delays or no delays. Also I find it absolutely hilarious that Steam was an attempt by Valve to circumvent their own publishers. Suddenly that whole buy valve games through steam thing makes a heck of a lot more sense now.

Vivindi has been in financial trouble for quite some time. Hell they're in the news practically quarterly about it. For awhile it was rumored that they were going to go bankrupt and/or sell off Blizzard or etc etc.

God forbid they make money. They only happened to make the SINGLE MOST POPULAR FPS OF ALL TIME WITH THE HIGHEST REVIEWS EVER, AS WELL AS THE MOST POPULAR MULTIPLAYER GAME IN HISTORY WITH A GOOD CHUNK OF THE WORLD'S POPULATION PLAYING IT AT ANYTIME. Oh yeah, they definately don't care about the community, despite the fact they keep putting in updates to a 6 year old game still meant for mod developers, as well as putting in a ton of stuff meant for its next game, not to mention liscensing for use a modelling program that probably cost them quite a few hundred thousand dollars, only for their mod development side, not to mention making one of the most ingenious systems ever(despite a bad startup). or maybe even supplying the addiction so many of us of these forumers have on a game about a mod on their 6 year old game their still funding.

    God Forbid.

    Welcome to capitalist America.

Companies, no matter how much they care about their fans and the quality of their products, are always in it for the money in the end.

This is pretty disgusting, on Valve's part. It sounds to me like they signed a contract, then lied their way out of their end of it.

If you don't want to hand over the right to your work to a publisher, either find one that will let you keep those rights or go independent. But to bully and lie so that the publisher relinquishes them is, plainly, cow excrement.

And as for attitudes like <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Die leech, die!... I hate publishers, they take a big piece of the pie but what they do is the bit I couldn't care less about.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The publishers <i>pay</i> for the whole goddamn pie! They're the ones who pay the salaries of the developers! They fund the games, they get the games to market. When you read about games these days having budgets on par with films, it's the publishers who foot the bill. They've got every right to a share in the profits.

Unless you believe that they should have to pour money into a game, then get nothing in return...?
