Usb 2.0

Installation Help
So I finally got a PCI slot type USB 2.0 for my PC.

I needed one, since I got this brand new Creative Xtra, but it kept complaining about how slow my USB is, so I got the new one.

Ok so what I did was remove the old one, put the new one in, and switch on the pc.

I plug the Zen in. *blam in your face* "A high speed device has been plugged into a non-high speed USB port"

"OK" I think, and suspect it's the drivers. I uninstall the USBs from my computers hardware manager, and it automatically tries again. and... *BLAM* yet again the little bubble of doom pops up.

Whats the problem here?

    I feel your pain.

Not long ago, I went and bought a USB 2.0 card reader, and had the same problem. I can't even remember where I eventually found the solution, since I spent quite some time searching for answers with google, and in MS's knowledgebase.

Anyway. I think it all came down to simply removing all USB root hubs from the device manager. Then, some steamy rebooting action and you're set. Or should be at least...

    edit:

Gawd how did I miss that you already tried it. Must. Get. Sleep.

Man I to feel your pain, USB 2.0 an Windows XP pro just don't know how to play nice I can only get my motherboards USB 2.0 ports to work by leaving the RAID and ethernet controlers uninstalled because the USB ports refuse to work if they are.

Dunno what to suggest really, does your motherboard support USB 2.0?

Stupid question probably but I thought I would ask

Well I just got the installation CD from the friend I bought the damn thing from, but it doesent even detect my USB at all.

My computer detects it, but still only functions at 1.1 levels.

Is it actually possible my mobo doesent support usb 2.0?

I've got an A7V133 from asus, and I have no idea about motherboards, so could someone tell me what to do?

Now if I recall, my Intel motherboard for my comp came with a thing about USB 2.0.

    I'll go dig it up.....

    Ah..

Apparently, you need to manually enable it in XP.

1.) Open the Device Manager for Windows XP
2.) In the Other Devices list double-click the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
3.) Select the Driver tab at the top of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller properties window
4.) Click on the button labeled Update Driver
    5.) Click the Next Button
    6.) Click the Finish Button
    7.)Click the Close Button

Well I've tried the update thing, but my pc never finds anything when it searches for drivers. I've also tried telling it to look in the place I want it to, but it just say I that there are no drivers I need in E:\xxx...

Is it possible for a motherboard to not support 2.0 altogether?

*edit* yes and I put the screen there to show you my USBs werent in "Other Devices", as if that changes anything.

    *bump*

So I tried forcing it to install the drivers but it still only functions at slow speeds!

    Help please!
