Thats the thing with MMO's my friend... there are no "maps". The best MMOs (in my opinion) are the ones that have no loading inbetween areas. The whole world is persistant.

Ooh, this would so pwn. Imagine a world like Freelancer, where you travel between worlds and there are space stations orbiting worlds, outposts on worlds, even caves.

Think of WoW + Freelancer + NS...

I'm truly supprised at how many people like this idea. Maybe this kind of thing is something the NS Team would concider after NS2. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

most MMO games suck. it's like you play by walking up to the battlefield by clicking on it and then you click the combat button and then read the newspaper for a few minutes and then check back to see if you survived or not.

That sounds like the awful RPGs you used to get on the SNES. I think games have become slightly more developed in the past, ooh, decade. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Thats cool if your not into that style of MMO. But this kind of thing would be totaly different. (read the rest of the thread for examples)

I know Flayra mentioned considering 'persistant world' elements in the sense that there'd be a set number of distinct battlefields that would have to be conquered, defended, and reclaimed, with a strategic group-deployment superstructure (think of it as a supreme commander deciding where to carry the battle) overarching the actual down-to-earth gameplay in an interview, but can't say whether that's still in the planning.

There is a league, Battle For the Galaxy, which has battles every sunday where two teams battle for the entire day. They have different planets that you conquer and stuff. It's pretty neat, but there's a lack of players playing for it.

You mean a total annihilation sorta element? They also had this huge starmap with clickable planets (maps). Victory over these planets was the decided at the end of the day, comparing the amount of wins for each team. One team would slowly conquer more and more of the starmap (ala UTk3's onslaught node system) and eventually be victorious.

Some of these battles lasted upto a month.

No, it could be like in SS troopers, they travel on asteroids. Or they have a special thing that can travel in space? I dunno.

Nem, I'm gonna use this in a new I&S thing. You're on to something that COULD prove good for NS' story, as well as overall feel/atmosphere.

    *vote yes*

but I think with NS's structure this will be impossible

RTS and MMORPG are highly at odds with oen another, i found this out the hard way when I was trying to create the Xzianthia world in the format of a multi-genre game.
