Acid? Snake Eater? Yes please!
Tons of news from the Metal Gear world today.
www.metalgearsolid.com has gone live, answering the age old question "why the hell doesn't Konami own the domain of their own game?"
It's a good portal site w/ plenty of info about the majority of the Metal Gear series, including a short history of the series for those who are unfamiliar with it.
The official Metal Gear Solid 3 site had a fairly big (considering how bad they are with updating it) update today showing 4 winners from the make-your-own-camoflauge contest they had.
Also the Characters page has been updated to expand the roster shown. They now show Snake, the main bad guy, the main bad (maybe good, maybe love interest?) gal, some other gal, a young Ocelot, and what I assume are the other bosses this time around.
Meanwhile, the Video Clips page taunts us all with a "Coming Soon" link for the new TGS2004 trailer. I saw a low-res version of the trailer on Gamespot and, despite it being in low res there, and being entirely in Japanese, I think its the best trailer for the game yet.
And of course, since Hideo Kojima is freaking crazy, he sends along a cryptic letter (perhaps made more cryptic due to lazy translation) for the fans.
Switching gears (no pun intended. Okay, maybe a tiny one) over to Acid, the Metal Gear Acid site has gone live as well. There is a bit more info about this game on the site, but as usual nothing too specific. It looks awesome, though I am concerned that 1) Hideo Kojima appears to not be involved with the project and 2) the story takes place in 2016, which is 7 years after Metal Gear Solid 2. Snake should be too old (in his late 30's/early 40's) for this sort of thing by now. Perhaps how they explain the turn based system. :P
All in all the game is looking good though, and it pains my wallet to know I'm gonna have to buy a PSP just for this game. Oh well. :P
I bet you thought you were done, didn't you?
No sir, not while the 2004 Tokyo Game Show is going on!
Gamespy has an awesome hands on with Metal Gear Acid. Gamespot has one as well!
Gamespot also scored some new Metal Gear Solid 3 footage as well. Their media page sucks, so you'll have to scroll to find the new stuff, but there is:
A Developer Interview with Jason Enos, U.S. Brand Manager for the Metal Gear franchise, who finally confirms that the Snake in MGS3 is *NOT* Solid Snake, so those of you clinging to your time travelling/patriots/whatever theories can give it up. Of course he can't come out and say you're playing as Big Boss, but he goes so far as to mention a genetic link between MGS3's Snake and Solid & Liquid... which if you know anything about the Metal Gear series then you know that narrows down to one person: Big Boss. Hooray I say, as in MGS2 Snake had became quite a pacifist sissy. I know Big Boss is willing to kill whoever gets in his way to get the job done, so hooray! He'll also be pretty damn **** when he loses that eye.
About halfway down the page in the "GameSpot Gameplay Movies" section there are 4 new movies from TGS:
"TGS 2004 Trailer" shows the awesome new trailer, however its low res, a shakycam, and in Japanese only (even the subtitles), but if you can't wait a few days for it to go on the above linked MGS3 web site (like I couldn't) its definately worth a look. Gameplay Footage 4, 5, and 6 all show short segments of some nubs who have obviously never played Metal Gear before running through the jungle, dying from sinking in the mud (which I'll talk about more in a coming post), and then struggling to climb the tree. But you can at least watch it and pretend you are that nub...
And now, I'm going back to playing Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake! :D

Which one?
Taking an action-based console game and turning it into a turn-based card console game spells trouble as far as I'm concerned =s
The trick to beating Psycho Mantis was hailed as genius by many, and jeered by others like myself, who spent 5 hours trying to figure it out, and now think that breaking the fourth wall in video games should be illegal.
I don't want none of that getting into a card game. I simply won't have it. It's unacceptable.
Oh, and if someone can find that video of that ugly tesla guy beating up Snake...You'll be my hero.

Doesn't the Colonel just call you up after a little while and flat out tell you what to do? I've never heard of anyone taking 5 hours to get it.
