Dungeon Keeper 2

D:
So I finally find this game in a bargain bin (not even - it was like, those games on a rack without even boxes), I go and install it, lo and behold, it crashes constantly. I look around and I see that it's not supported on Windows XP (Weird). I go and patch it... it doesn't fix it. I tried compatability mode for 95/98/2000 and none of them work (the first two, in fact, won't even allow launching the game).
Anyone know of any fix for this or something?
I'm not even going to bother trying EA tech support.

[Edit] Ahh, here we go! From From page 9 of the WinXP tweak guide Reformat to Relax
Install non-XP programs on WinXP if compatibility mode fails
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
ProductName=Microsoft Windows 2000 To install a Win2K app, or rename to another OS.
CurrentBuildNumber=2600 You may have to edit this value if the program still refuses to run.
Yay! I love the registry!
See the above edit. ^_^
-enablebumpluminance -32biteverything for nicer graphical settings.
Works for me on a 9800 pro in win xp sp1.
EDIT: So far so good!
However, there is a map maker for DK2. It's a little difficult to use, but can result in some rather interesting gameplay experiances as you can alter every value to every creature. You can even place elite creatures (latest DK2 patch required!!!) which are basically totally-unique-1-elite-of-a-type-on-the-map-at-a-time creatures. And what's more is that the computer isn't smart enough to summon elites, giving you the edge if you know how to do so.
Tip: Arrange rooms in different patterns to aquire the elite creatures!
And, unlike the original, you can actually pre-place doors/traps AND your imps gain experience as they do tasks. Creatures that go to the workshop go there, and work on creating the door. A imp takes the trap and places it, reinforces a wall, and digs alot will gain levels like mad.
A funny bug i found in multiplayer was this:
First, in the game settings, ensure that reinforced walls CANNOT be dug through.
Second, start a game with as many computer players as you like.
Third, find a long stretch of a enemy's reinforced wall once you've gained sufficient strength.
Fourth, sit back and watch your imps reach level 10.
How this works is that it's a error in/conflict between the tile's coding and the mutlplayer game's (skrimish or otherwise) settings. You can dig the reinforced wall like normal, however, the wall has infinite "health" just like gem seams; however the reinforced wall -- unlike impenetrable rock -- is tagable, thus your imps try to mine a inifinite-health reinforced wall!
Only when you played over LAN, using the Possesion spell would make it either crash, or rewind you a minute in time. Really weird.
I'm amazed you got Windows XP running on that in the first place.
