Looking For A Lcd Monitor.
<div class="IPBDescription">Need some recommendations.</div> Parents have suggested to me that they may get me a flat-screen for my 21st, all I need to do is find a good one.
So start recommending me some. If I get 3 or so people recommending me a good one I'll probably go with it.
Looking at starting around the 19" mark
Price limit is probably 1000 Australian. (720 US)
All the other usual requirements... it's not crap, no faults, good res, etc.
Inbuilt speakers are of little concern. So either way.
Thanks to anyone who helps me out.

There are no damaged pixels whatsoever. There weren't any from the start either (which is a good thing to check). And although I still don't have a graphics card with a digital in, the picture is crystal clear at 1024x768, with no ghosting. It was in the expensive range those days, but I think it's gotten much cheaper now.
I know you're going for the 19", but this is still my recommendation. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
EDIT: As for the 19", my mom has an Acer AL712, which also worked perfectly so far (1 year).
Did manage to find a few though:
<a href='http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=311509&pfp=BROWSE' target='_blank'>VX910 19-inch LCD Monitor, Black/Silver</a>
<a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-338&depa=1' target='_blank'>ViewSonic VP912B 19"</a>
<a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-014-063&depa=1' target='_blank'>BenQ FP931 Silver 19"</a> - Note: this monitor does have a DVI input-check specs <a href='http://www.benq.com/display/lcd_fp931_specs.html' target='_blank'>on BenQ's website.</a>
I dont know the exact name of it though.. but you can always look it up
Alternatively, one of <a href='http://www.go-l.com/monitors/grand_canyon/features/index.htm' target='_blank'>These</a>
Or if you had more money than bill gates, you could buy one of the things on <a href='http://www.go-l.com/press/downloads/index.htm' target='_blank'>Here</a>(when they are released(if you had $79,999 to spend))
Being serious, i have no knowledge of what TFT monitor is better than any other one.
No base, just a backstand <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
You can't get much better for LAN gaming <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It's a 19" in Australia under $1000 (Which is a hard find)
Has 16ms response time (From the meager research I've done, this is around average-ish)
Too me, it looks like a pretty good monitor... however I'll take it up with an aussie lan forum to guage their response and to get them to recommend me a good site to buy from <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
So yeah, can anyone not recommend the VX910?
And major cookie points to anyone that can tell me Viewsonic's dead pixel policy/warranty info.
The closest thing I've seen have all been considered Televisions. Typically they're around 40" and up. They're also selling for around $3000US and weigh around 75-80lbs.
If I were to get one of these (and we're looking), I would stick closer to Toshiba.
Thank you kuperaye.

He's right, the new Dell Screen is freakin awesome.
<a href='http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=320-0699&category_id=4058&customer_id=RC956904&mnf=694&~tgt=snp_prodlist&c=US&l=en&s=hied&cs=RC956904' target='_blank'>I believe this was the one they reviewed in Maximum PC.</a>
They reviewed 8 monitors and out of all of them, they thought the Dells was the best for gaming and had the crispest view for watching movies, etc. Overall, even though Dell makes crappy cheap LCDs, you should get this one since they actually made a decent LCD.

Definately not what I had in mind. I suppose I'll stick with my original plan and get a <a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-002-040&depa=0' target='_blank'>fatass 22" CRT</a>.
Thank you kuperaye.

i believe that 17 inch lcds are as big screen wise as 18 or 19 inch crts, but i could be wrong...
Go for one gigantic CRT for the price of LCD.
Thank you kuperaye.

I think you have a good point there. It seems to me that CRTs are measured diagonally whereas LCD's are measured at the baseline.

Yeah but I go to plenty of LAN events.
One of my friends has a 19" CRT and it is far too big, bulky, cumbersome and heavy to be taking it to events like these.
Whereas on the other hand, my other friend carries his 17" LCD to the event on his lap.
And yes I could get a 22" for roughly the same price... but then there would be no room in my boot for all the PCs and my table would collapse under the weight....

I think it's measured diagonally... reading reviews where the guys compare it to their CRTs they notice it's a lot bigger.
:shame on me.
