<div class="IPBDescription">...in my position?</div> See, I'm a mod on another board for Final Fantasy XI. I love that board, more because the people are friendly almost to the point of stupidity, and there is always a thread going on.
...but in a want to clean things up, I've decided to kill one of the oldest threads there off- a "Word Association" thread, that is 3000 posts long, and about 297 pages. It was a one-word spamthread. And frankly, with the forum already having these posts of "OMG lewk aht mah pstcowntx0r!", I figured, lets give them a reason to have those posts, and get rid of this one-word spamthread(which one person was abusing heavily).
Now, someone has made a topic complaining about it. I stated my reasons, and told them that I at least would rather have a strict environment with a strong community(like here), than a crap community because of the lax rules, where only the moderators are noticed because their names are in a different text color.
What would you have done? Just let it gone on?(its been there since I went to the boards PERIOD. And frankly, you can't unlock it because of their archaic forum system, which must display EVERY SINGLE POST on those pages just to unlock it back.) In hopes of getting it to stop, others are siggesting a new thread, but I personally would like to see it juts go away. But what are your positions(sorry fot the ranting).

Make an offical no spam rule

explain this, and lock subsequent posts.
If you give people a place to be silly in, you wont have to worry so much about spam invading the real forums.

There is a no spam rule. Its just not enforced. As is the same for almost all the other rules- including racist remarks and the such(I'm the only one that ever cleans those up...)
And let the community know about this decree.

Or, you can tell them it lags up the forum, open it again and do a dos attack on the forum server. Then everyone will beg you to delete the thread and you can be all "I TOLD YOU SO", which is kinda cool too.
And if someone complains, say you were just following orders. Then, if things get really bad, move to Argentina.
