Right, so I just started this program where I take some college classes, take some high school classes, and the state picks up the bill for all of it.
Win.
However, I'm taking about 4 pages a day of notes in college, not counting HS stuff, so I was thinking about picking up a cheap laptop for note-taking, gaming-in-calculus Lecture activities. Since I'm inherantly bad at organizing my things, I tend to let these pages of notes end up everywhere.
However, "cheap" and "laptop" don't go together well. At all.
Does anyone know if it's possible to build a laptop in the same way that one builds a computer, or if it's economically feasible to do so? I have a vision of a stainless-steel laptop beast, but I want to know if it's worth my while to do that sort of thing.
Any relevant commentary would be appriciated.

Normally retails about $1,000 but every 2 weeks or so Best Buy has a sale where they are $750 after mail-in rebate. And if you qualify for their stupid credit card you may be able to get no interest for 16 months, which is what I did cause I'm a cheap bastard who hates paying interest. :P
I love me laptop. It plays all DVDs, AVIs, Divxs, etc flawlessly, the sound is decent enough, and it runs Fedora Core 2 linux like a charm. In fact, Linux is the primary OS for my laptop, I do still have XP Home on there for dual booting, which the laptop handles very well.
Some people complain that there's no built in wireless, but you can buy a D-Link 802.11g wireless pcmcia card for like $30 now, so that's not really a big deal.
The 4 USB ports are nice too. 2 are on the left side, and 2 in the back.
Great idea, found a Palm and Keyboard for about $200 at Bust Buy.
Not bad, thanks.
