Ns On The Doom 3 Engine

Has the team thought about porting Natural Selection to the Doom 3 engine? The Half-Life engine has been great but I think it's finally time to move on. The Doom 3 engine suits NS perfectly. It's best used in smaller spaces, and the dynamic lighting is great for that abandoned space base mood. The only problem (and it is a large one) is that the devs would have to start from almost scratch, where if they used the Source engine it would be easy to convert.

IIRC, this has already been talked about a lot... I'm not sure if NS is even possible on the Doom 3 engine, due to the limitations, unless NS was made into a very different mod...

Oh, ya, no one else post beyond this line:

EDIT: damned, cortex beat me to it!

NS with the doom3 engine would suck. The best of graphics cards (x800's and 6800's) couldn't even handle it.

Been discussed many times, isn't going to happen, ontop of that its a terrible idea imo.

Yeah, D3's engine absolutely sux lolzzzz [/sarcasm] so let's port it to Farcry (lol!) or Source aka DNForeverTheSequel.

I'd rather have it on source

At this time I really don't think the doom3 engine is viable. We would need to wait a bit so people have upgraded their boxes for an advanced game as NS to run good enough.

Wait! Thats perfect! Because by the time they figure out HOW to do all of this, the D3 engine will be a mid-range engine! BWAHAHAHA

If the game was ported to doom 3 alot of people would be left behind, I know that my machine cant handle doom3, especially if there was a turret farm in it...

Pretty much all our thoughts on a port to a new engine are summed up in the FAQ entry cortex linked to.
