Here are the questions from the marine half. I will be updating this to add the answers as the guides reply. I've been adding in replies, some of these questions have multilpe answers so feel free to keep the responces coming guides.

    1. What is the recommended sensitivity for comm?
A: Brack : The sensitivity variable in half-life does not effect your mouse movement in the commander interface, it is only effected by your general mouse drivers. As such, the default would normally be the "recommended" setting, since this is the same speed that you browse through the windows interface. Of course, the faster you set your mouse speed the less mouse movement you'll need, but in the end it comes down to personal comfort.

    2. How do you change ex_interp?
A: Brack: To change ex_interp, edit your userconfig.cfg and add the the lines:
    ex_interp ___yourNumberGoesHere____
    alias ex_interp

    3. How does the extrapmax affect your game, and how does that relate to the ex_interp setting?
    A: Brack:
    ex_extrapmax 1.2
Extrapolating occurs when the client does not have an end position to interpolate to. It then extrapolates a predicted position which the client is moved to. Extrapmax sets the maximum amount of time we will extrapolate the player (read: how far). If the position is outside this value the player will not be moved any further. The server does always count on a default position so changing this value doesn't do anything.
The above was taken from -> <a href='http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=165416' target='_blank'>http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=165416</a> (this is a website explaining many of the dif settings)

    4. How do you knife skulks effectively?
A: Brack: To effectivly knife a skulk, first shoot the skulk with three pistol shots. After that, it will take only one knife swipe to kill him.

    5. Where do guides play?
A: Pandas|Jojoshua and Jane play together on random public servers most of the time, but Jane really likes the [OldF] server.
A: MajorChrome: I play LM, OldF, voogru, and random servers
    A: Hellabean: warmnfuzzyland
A: Brack: I only play at FR31NS (64.246.102.61). When the server is full of regulars you'll not play a better public game anywhere else.

    6. What are the good keys to use for “go to med pack request” and “go to order request”? (It was said that someone used “,” and “.” for it, and it didn’t ‘get there fast enough.”
A: Brack: Assuming your mouse has additional buttons, mouse4 and mouse5 work best for me.

    7. How do you get "words" (locations) on you minimap, and is this against CAL rules?
A: Minimaps with locations on them can be found on the ns.org forums, (I just did a quick search) here are a few links:

    - <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=60560' target='_blank'>http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/in...showtopic=60560</a>
    - <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=80812&hl=minimap' target='_blank'>http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/in...0812&hl=minimap</a>
    - <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=80574&hl=minimap' target='_blank'>http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/in...0574&hl=minimap</a>

Hellabean: A minimap with words on it is not against CAL, most sprites besides a few arent becuase of consistency.

    8. Is it a waste to capture a hive?
A (Jojo): No, it's not a waste to capture a hive. Unless you end it really early, the aliens are going to get a 2nd hive. Its always a good idea to get the last one in your hand so they wont get it. However you cant sit in the hive to much, because if your on the defensive and aliens have 2 hives, you will probably loose it. Take the hive and keep pressure on them and keep taking nodes. The hive is your insurance.

I have a question about #7 on the list.

Is the mini map with words against any rules in league play? Like CAL for example?

All this time I've been using the "clock" method. Like 12:00 would be straight up top. 6:00 straight bottom of the map. It works well. Like "6:00 hive under attack!" rather than "Feedwater under attack".

Easier to type, faster to find if you don't know the names too.

Though lots of pubs go "What's 6:00 hive?" >_>

On #4, I meant like where do you aim? If you aim straight down it usually misses. If you aim normal it misses unless they jump.

I saw a video of this guy doing side movements or somthing and he got like three knife kills.

Any angle or certain way to easily get at least one knife hit off the skulk before he bites you to death? >_>

AFAIK, the skulk bite range is much further than the knife swipe range. HOWEVER, the knife swings slightly faster, 1.54 swings/sec, whereas the skulk bite only goes at 1.24 bites/sec.

the only way i've seen it done is the marine goes into a crouch to make his hit box smaller, then just starts swinging wildly. sometimes the skulk is in the habit of jumping around and biting and what may happen is the skulk will jump over the marine as he's swiping, and totally miss the bite (it also helps that the skulk bite reaches slightly up) while the marine gets in a death blow.

It is no longer necessary to to alias ex_interp to nothing, as the (faulty) lock on ex_interp was removed in beta 5.

    <!--QuoteBegin-Niteowl+Sep 28 2004, 02:16 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Niteowl @ Sep 28 2004, 02:16 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->HOWEVER, the knife swings slightly faster, 1.54 swings/sec, whereas the skulk bite only goes at 1.24 bites/sec. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That is not correct. The knife's attack rate is about 3 per second, and the Skulk bite's attack rate is a little over 2 per second.

Note that values for attack rates given in Balance.txt and in the manual are not correct, so if you got these values from one of those sources, that would explain why they're wrong.
