Ok I've got a choke problem, no matter what I do the choke when running NS stays above 70. I've tied setting cl_updaterate but all that does is make it worse( never goes under 90)
My fps isnt great but it stays at a constant 30-40. But I also get really stupid lag( like I'll pin 220 in a seattle server, when I live in seattle where my roommate is getting 80 ping)
the comp I got isnt't great but it should work for ns:
2.8 ghz cpu
256 mb of ram
Radeon 9200 128 mb.
what can I do?

Also, are you running any other programs that use your connection. Some programs especially P2P filesharing has a tendency to kill your connection.
Some connections, especially really crappy cable modem connections will give you good ping but awful choke.
One thing you could try is to update your network card drivers, sometimes mine will stop working well for some reason.
I'm not running any other apps ie p2p,winamp.
where would I find what network drivers I have?
Second of all to find out your network drivers you have got follow these steps:
Windows Xp:
Start > Control Panel > System > (top but bottom row) Hardware > Device Manager
or.
If you go to
Start > My Network Places > (left hand menu) View Network Connections > Right Click on the appropriate connection (i.e. Lan) > Properties
Then there is some info there.
I have had many problems with pings, check you room mate isnt using P2P programs I find Winamp ok on a playlist, but im on a 3mb connection. Also try seeing any spyware/worms or anything thats harmful try using AVG or Ad Aware. on both Systems.
Also swap cables around. and look at what differences the PC in software is different becuase if your on the same connection then obiously you should have the same settings, if this doesnt help post back.
Thanks m8
