Mic Cutting Out

When I start playing, my mic works fine. But as I continue in games, it tends to get more and more choppy. Any help? It really sucks when I am comming. Also, any explanations will have to be very precise, I am not very tech savy. Thanks a lot all.

    Could be a problem with your rates...

    cl_cmdrate 101 <-- this one fixed my mic problems (you enter this in the console)

    Or, it could always be that your mic is low-quality and/or broken.

    is it a usb microphone?

    a friend i play with has a usb mic. what he does is he turns the sound hardware acceleration down all the way. it wortks most of the time then.
