I Have A Problem

<div class="IPBDescription">Windows XP Activation</div> I have a (legal) copy of Windows XP Pro and unfortunately my computer has not always been very cooperative so I have reinstalled many times. However after formatting and reinstalling windows with sp2 I'm now finding that my copy "has been activated too many times" (or words to that effect).

How am I supposed to deal with this? Do I have to dish out another 300 dollars just to get a valid key because Microsoft can't make a decent piece of software?

I would like to resort to a legal solution. Any help would be much appreciated.

You're supposed to make a backup of the activation for times like these, but since you want to go the legal route you need to call microsoft. Or buy a new copy. Gogo capitalism.

Erm how would I go about doing that anyway? (for future reference I suppose)

Windows optimizations and has a section for backing up the activation you created. Nifty tool.

Just call M$ support. I had to do that back when I had a copy that needed activation (gogo volume licensing). They ask you a few questions then read of a hideously long key. Just hope your support person speaks english well, mine had a THICK accent and it took 2 calls (30 minutes on hold in each) to get it to work.
