Installing Help Please!

Hey guys,

I recently downloaded NS due to a friend raving about how great it is. Just wanna say awesome job on the development, I was playing at his house and it looks great. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So yeah, I downloaded, and installed. But I get this error when I try to access it through steam:

Your .dll [cl_dlls\client.dll] differs from the server's

Here is how I login to steam:

Open steam -> Login -> Servers -> Try to open a map with co_ in front of it

But whenever I start connecting, the error message comes up. I was wondering, is this due to the fact I installed NS outside of my Half-Life directory? Or is there something I've forgotten to do?

    It sounds like you have the wrong version installed. First off, go to your halflife folder. It should be at "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\youremail\half-life"

    Check for either (or both) of two folders: nsp and/or ns. If you see nsp you have the old version (beta 4) installed. Delete the folder and install the correct version which is beta 5.

    If you see ns, you have the current version installed. That <i>should</i> work if you run it from Steam's 'Play Games' menu. If it doesn't, move any files you want to keep (such as config files and custom models, etc.) to another folder. Then delete the ns folder and try a reinstall.
    If that still doesn't help, you probably have a bad download and need to get anther from the net.

    Ok dude, well, there is a "ns" folder at the location which you told me. But inside, all it's got is a a folder called "SAVE" and a "config.cfg". Is this where I should install Natural Selection to? Or should I just install it into my Half-Life folder (Into a folder called "ns"), and this should work?

    If my questions are too confusing, can you please tell me exactly where I need to install NS to, and what directory/ect, ect?

    This will install beta 5 no matter what you have done before, so start at the begining!
    1) Install Steam (Get the one with the HL cash if you can), if you have already installed Steam you may skip this step
    2) Play HL Via Steam (just load up the training mission and then quit)
    3) Search Your Hard Drive for NS and NSP
    4) Deleate ALL Folders with these names.
    4a) If you have a previously working install of an earlier version that you wish to keep: You can rename all NS folders to NSBUP and leave the NSP Folders alone.
    4b) If you have a previous install of NS, and wish to keep your configs, cimply copy your .cfg filles (normaly just config.cfg and userconfig.cfg, to your desktop)
    5) Close Steam.
    6) Run the Beta 5 installer (ns_install_v3_b5.exe)
    6a) Point the installer at Steam\SteamApps\Your@email\Half-Life
    6b) If you backedup your config files, now is the time to move them to your NS folder.
    7) Launch Steam
    8) Change your filters so that the point at <b>Natural Selection(Beta 5)</b> Instead of <b>Natural Selection (Beta)</b>
    9) Connect and play.
    10) If you get any errors (map.bsp, client.dll, or <b>ANYTHING</b>:
    a) Search your HDD for NS, there should only be a dir called NS in your Steam\SteamApps\Your@email\Half-Life\NS, unless you backed up a previous install.
    b) If it is ANYWHERE elese, try moving it to the correct place, or simply deleate it and start again.


    If you still get map.bsp errors, or client.dllrors, start from step 3 again.
    If you are POSITIVE that you hvae folowed the directions correctly, then redownload  ns_install_v3_b5.exe from another location.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Delete that ns folder and install directly to the half-life folder.

    humm if u still got the problem well, it could be u dont have that file or summin ?

    I think i had that too once but i dno, i copied some client.dll file(from HL folder?) and put it where it was needed and it started working.

    Then again, its been a while and im most likely wrong.
