Take a look at the headers of the email you receive. PSU flags emails and eliminates those that exceed a certain 'spam threshold'.
My suggestion is this: Create an email alias NOW. Only use your abc123@psu.edu email address for official business. Your alias will catch any spam sent to you through harvesting and you can delete your alias whenever the amount of spam you receive gets too large.
Currently I use thewizard@psu.edu as my alias. I just change it ever year to thwart the spammers.

One of the biggest problems for email is people who check their email too often. There are some students that click on the send/recv button or have it set to autocheck 5000-8000 times per day.
