<div class="IPBDescription">A little bird (err, I mean Lerk) told me</div> Ok, so this is where I post for mapping help? Thanx ppl. Anyways, I could really use a room or two to start my map off with, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post a link to some old, unused file of yours. Thanx!
Here's my only NS map worth talking about, and even that's not worth much yet:

If you need anything else, just look at the webbed topics in the main mapping forum.
Everything you need is pretty much in there.
Keep practicing your leet Hammer skills. Practice ftw.
Specifically, with this: <a href='http://cariad.co.za/twhl/tutorial.php?id=23' target='_blank'>http://cariad.co.za/twhl/tutorial.php?id=23</a>
And I went through all the beginner tutorials. Except the bits about setting up monsters and scripted sequences, since single player maps don't need to worry about that. Just take those step by step, working along in hammer. If you finish them all you should have a pretty good idea of how basic mapping works. Then you start trying something on your own and you make all sorts of mistakes and learn all sorts of tricks. Eventually you'll start to get the hang of it, and try and make a map. Your first map will probably suck horribly. This is normal. Then you make a second map, and it's pretty good. All it takes is dedication. Have fun!
Looks a good tutorial apart from where they try and teach new mappers bad tricks.

For future reference to mappers trying to learn, in general you will want to build everything brush by brush and not make whole rooms and hollow them. And use carve almost never, only for square openings. And even then make sure that it doesn't clip the walls apart in odd ways.
If you don't have the motivation and don't think it's fun in the beginning when you can't do anything, then mapping is maybe not 'your thing'. It takes alot of time to learn to map and, as I said, I'm still learning new things every day after four years.
No offence, but whining in many threads about help doesn't really get you anywhere. You will only get less liked here at the forums because we have all done what we've told you to do. Trial and error.
I wish you luck and I hope you have the patience to read all the tutorials <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
1. A ReadyRoom. Read up about how big it needs to be and how many and which entities it needs. Design it yourself, by all means take 'inspiration' from other maps. This means walk around and if you see something that's quite nice then by all means recreate it, but don't copy it. It's perfectly acceptable to incorporate things from other maps into your own map, just as long as the majority is your original work.
For now I think it would serve you much better just to concentrate on one room. Read the contents of the links that people have posted in this and the other locked topic. Maybe you want to draw a sketch of what your room might look like in MSPaint or something.
To go into other maps in NS, simply type map ns_mapname. To see a list of the maps type maps * (or is it maps*). You can choose to nose around any of those mapnames because they all have readyrooms.
Post some screenshots of your readyroom when you have a plan or a simple layout in ValveHammerEditor.
P.S. Please stop asking for people to give you map sections, it won't help you. There's no easy way to becoming good at mapping. Few have yet reached excellence and most are still learning, but none have reached perfection. That's why this forums exists: to offer criticism, help, opinion, feedback and help us help NS.
P.S. I still think of it as Worldcraft, so please excuse me if I call it that more often than Hammer.
P.P.S. I have a rr, but that's all that actually looks good <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> and that's not even finished. Find the button titled "Print Scrn" or similar on your keyboard (it should be to the right of F12, above Insert). Click it, then open MS Paint, Photoshop or an image editing program and press Ctrl+V or go to Edit > Paste. There's your picture. (this works for nearly any program by the way, you can use it to take a picture of your desktop for example).
Brush by brush is probably the best advice I've read on here in my brief association with mapping. Rather than creating a square room and hollowing it, then trying to add this and delete that and modify everything in between, I tried this and am creating some unique shapes ... good advice Janitor Bob!
By the way, I was looking through my server logs and saw where you were on my server briefly while the co_jaguars_b3 map was on. That map was my very first attempt at mapping so as you noticed it was quite basic.
Hmm...I don't remember playing that map and I don't have it in my memory...or are u talking to someone else?
Directed at me I assume. And yes, I do like to server hop to see any custom maps that might be found. Sadly most of them do follow the 'pretty basic' theme. But at least it wasn't a ripent version of a CS map. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Busted! I have 4 of those (including simpsons which is a comedic work of art) plus tfc_2fort. Alas, I have ditched the ripent to pursue an honest career of mapmaking ...
its the other way round: make hollow is quite ok, to CARVE **** your map up! trust me.
