Weird Install Issue After Latest Steam Update

Normally when i want ns I just run the install and it automatically works in steam. But after I do a fresh install of steam with the latest Steam update, NS doesn't show up after I install it.
I discovered that Steam had "hidden" my silverace99@hotmail.com folder where the half-life files were... so that when I ran the NS install, it didn't see the half-life folder, created a new empty half-life folder in the steamapps directory, and just dumped the NS files in there (and hence NS wouldn't work).
But once I installed Day of Defeat, the silverace99@hotmail.com folder appeared again and i was able to install NS to the proper directory.
Just wondering if anybody else came across this issue and knows what the problem is.
