i run a server (superconnected, ns3b4) and ive been seeing some weird stuff lately. players with uncanny skills with scores like 65 kills to 4 deaths.
can anyone point out how to spot hackers, what kind of hacks there are?
i know how to spot some of the cs stuff, but are there ns specific hacks?
id hate to ban someone thats really good vs someone that hacks.

But, the best way and really the only way to tell is to spectate someone in first person (record a demo as proof) and note their movements. Sudden movements directly to an enemy, 180 degree turns are a give away. There are some hacks like speed hacks that are so obvious you dont need to spectate. Also, watch for a cheater trackign a player through a wall or shooting just as he appears (if they dont have mt or sof).
for a lot of cases though u can never be 100% sure

Btw, Bry is right. But there is more that players can do too to make themselves play better but is not neccessarily right: fast switching of weapons, binds that enable them to do things faster without having to go thru the menu, things that are ligit but still annoying for people that are still new to the game and play with default configs.
You could get Cheating-Death and make everyone have to have it to play on your server .. of course I don't know how much Cheating-Death really does. I suppose the same as it does for CS.

yeah, i know how to spot wallhacks and speedhacks but this one guy was a lerk and he was getting crazy kills. it appeared he was biting at a longer range then was allowed. i heard something about a bite bug, it was pretty crazy.
the players banned ranted on our forums swearing they werent hacking.

As for Beta4, ya our server is still beta4a <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> We haven't went to beta 5 neither because of plugin conflicts lol
I know the proverbial CS lingo is to call all cheats, hacks. But that is totally incorrect. My guess is they are cheating. Since when I run a server it's usually a listen server I will be able to go and see for myself and be there to contol the activity.
The BEST best way to determine cheating for SURE is to record a demo and post the link to it on these forums. All the ns experts will flock to the post and the cheating will be revealed or disproved conclusively. In the meantime you could temp ban if you want.

Best way to get possible cheat videos reviewed is NOT to post them here, however. "Is this guy hacking?" threads will be locked swiftly, because of the inevitable drama they will produce, and because server specific problems generally shouldn't be aired on the ns forums. Best option is to simply find someone trustworthy with experience in these matters and PM it directly to them.

Well I play with high volume and headphones, don't need mt or sof at all and can shoot someone right after he seems to appear around the corner.

LoL your describing yourself and most cal players. Usually every night these .txt people and a bunch of cal team players join GP's CO server and usually stack marines and use blackmarket's Vent channel to talk.
I mean I dont mind this at all cause I love the challenge and Im not going to ban people for being good.
I've been suspicious at times, but then I shrug it off as I don't want to start any crud on that server. I experience this mostly on the marine side and saw only once a suspected speed hacker. Everyone on the marines cried lag, but a marine doesn't teleport down a hall 512+ units and kills you before reaching you due to lag... I suggest having a spectator look at the players from time to time.

All we do every night is join servers, not necessarily stack marine ALL the time, but eh, it's more fun to play marine because the aliens suck... and the greater challenge is to kill the newbie walker, celerity, focus, cara, regen fades, and whine about it on vent when we can't, because there is no challenge to play aliens on CO servers, and you usually get banned instantly for "Speedhacking" or "Aimbotting" because focus is undoubtly overkill with a good player.
I have had to get another steam acct because i've been banned from the majority of the east cost pubs for "hacking". If I may make a suggestion, ask a better player on your server, that may be a regular, if they think the person is hacking.
And if worse comes to worse, take a demo and send it to me (Prodigy^_^) on irc or message me on here, and I'll tell you if he's hacking or not.
A couple of admins from the wnf server, nspug, and just random players send me demos all the time, so don't worry, it doesn't bother me.

MT allows quite accurate tracking especially in combat maps. Most wallhack accusers don't realise that marines could check their MT for skulks setting up ambushes, and wonder why they got shot when waiting next to the MS exit.
It gets suspicious when a marine walks in your direction, clears the doors threshold jumping and shooting you precisely wiht one Shotgun blast. Something like that happened <i>extremely</i> seldom to me. I have seen more speedhackers banned instantly after joining the servers to be honest.
Hacks are a rare occurance indeed.
I guess the phenomenon of aimbot hackers is more related to the HL engines faulty hitbox registration. I think more experienced or pro gamers are more accustomed to the strange behavior which the engine sometimes exhibits and thus are more proficient in predicting the hitboxes actual position and thus registering more hits.

i know from experience that anytime someone makes a game, some jerk will make a hack, then someone else a counter-hack, then they will update the hacks and so on.
i have seen some of the cs hacks, aimbot, wallhacks, etc.
ive been playing since NS was first put in MOD OF THE DAY at fileplanet or somewhere (i think 1.0), so its been a long time, but i have problems even when spectating. one guy was lerking and had some crazy skills. i suck at lerk, so i dunno. this guy was flying like he was on rails and every bite was a kill. i know he probably had focus, but he was just getting kills left and right. he even seemed to be getting kills from an unreasonable distance away. (bite bug?)
so i was looking for descriptors and possibly someone pm'ing me some info, urls, of places that hacks/cheats are at. i know it sounds funny, but my only interest is to find out what is available so i can spot them and eject them.
some guy said he had an unban hack, and i dont even know if such a thing exists. i know we had problems with a guy who was banned, yet somehow getting into our server again, but we pegged it as an exploit due to an earlier allow_downloads exploit.
plus people i peg as hackers register on my forums and complain that they were not hacking, which to me, might mean they might not have hacked and just have had a good day that day.
Also make sure to record more than just one kill, some people hand me demos and say look he went round the corner and shot this guy straight away who was cloaked! But he may have just been checking common areas, or MT might have shown him that someone was there before he cloaked, or he might have been repeatedly using that spot. You need a long demo so that you can add up all those weird kills and eventually say thats too much to just be luck.
If you want to spot cheats yourself, then the only way to do it really is to download some cheats yourself and see what they can do. Make sure you do it on a listen server with bots or a friend! Where to find them? www.google.com
