What type of mouse is it? and do you have any other types of programs running in the backround?

I have had a smiliar problem, but it was being caused by a keylogger (trogan/virus) I suggest you also do a full scan of your hdd for trojans/viruses and let me know whats up.

It could be, try turning off every program running with the exception of steam of course and play ns.

If its only the mouse thats dragging, IMo it has to be cpu lag related not server/connection wise.
Again, just try turning everything off, under ctrl-alt-del
end task to everything but systems and explorer.exe ect I'm sure you
    know about all that though.

come back and tell me how it worked out

    tried, didn't work

its never done this b4, and my computer can play hl alrite.
Could it be WinXP internet firewall? I had this problem awhile back with ZA firewall...

the mouse is fine in the console and in windows but it gets choppy (the aim) and doesn't respond if i'm shotting lerks and other aliens.

Hmm, If you say you had a similar problem with your firewall being on turn it off and try again. If its not that either, make sure you have the latest drivers for your vid card and other cpu components such as your motherboard.
Also, it could be your video- card. What are your system specs including your vid card?

    Things to do:

    1) try a different mouse
    2) Run thes programs:
    AdAware
    Spybot S&D
    AVG
(google, em you will find them)
    3) Turn off all 3rd party programs (norton, any firewalls, etc etc etc)

    Only thing I didnt tell him to do was try a new mouse <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

and if the new mouse doesnt work, dont reinstall ns, delete the whole steam and do a complete reinstall of everything.

    Have same problem =/
I think it has something to do with programs running in background...
Like when someone logs on to msn, the mouse lag starts.

But even with all other applications closed, I can still get the lag, but not as much as when the programs would be running

I have a wireless optical mouse and use AVG, adaware and spybot, so meh =/

thats your problem chaos, wirless optical mouses are bad for gaming unless its a very high pricey one up in the 100+ dollar area, trust me I know <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Probably Wireless related. If it is wireless, do you use batteries to power it?

Mice start going nuts if you don't change their batteries frequently. Try that.

I had this problem myself, turn off numlock and don't use shift for any command. Thats what fixed it for me. Its some latent problem in Valves games where certain keyboards wont work and it causes all sorts of problems, also, make sure in taskman that all programs listed under your name such as games have terminated properly, if they are still in memory this also causes that problem. (For example I cannot crouch while pressing forward, and I cannot press left arrow and forward arrow to strafe left and go forward at the same time. It causes the keyboard to stop functioning)

sounds daft, but have u tried cleaning ur mouse rollers?

i have what could be called a similar problem, but only occurs in the ready room... when a game ends or something, and everybody gets moved to the RR, my view will suddenly and randomly rotate 180degrees in an instant... this happened on 2 mice ive used and it only happens a couple of times. wonder if its something game related?
