I'm afraid HL2 will indeed be the 'Best Game Ever', but I think that's only right as its predecessor has been carrying the torch for so long. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Personally I don't mind the flashlight/running thing.. It's powered by your HEV suit, the power is shared, so it makes sense, right?
Plus it's true that no game is ever going to get 100%, for different reasons. One of them is different preferences of games.. What is a 'perfect game', how do you define it? The sims 3 could get 100%, but i wouldn't play it, because i don't like the sims games. I just don't find them fun. And yet, it's a 100% score, surely everyone in the entire world should be utterly captivated and addicted to it, forfeiting all other responsibilities and commitments to play it?
The score is just a comparison to other games - it's not a mark or a subtraction for 'mistakes'.
I don't understand why the flashlight sucks up battery power. It's a power suit, unless that flashlight is in-friggin-credibly powerful, there's no way that a flashlight would drain *edit* significant amounts of *edit* power from the suit that allowed you to super-jump (in HL1).

Its not that I'm looking for HL2 to fail, I just can't take the review as being objective if there isn't analysis of both the pros and cons. Instead the article just reads like a well crafted multipage advertisement, rather than an actual review.

Er, that's not exactly a secret. Valve has said long ago and time and time again that there will be a Half-Life 3.
Rumors indicate they are going to contract 1/2 of the game to Raven Software, 1/4 to Pandemic Studios, and the last 1/4 to Nihilistic. Then they're going to count the money.
<b>Me</b>h.. Plenty of o<b>t</b>her places t<b>o</b> get it fr<b>o</b>m.
I dunno. I kind of can't believe there's nothing for them to complain about in the entire game. I mean, DOOM 3 was terrific, but not perfect. HL1 was terrific, but not perfect. I find it hard to believe that HL2 is completely without any complaints. I mean hell, they gave it a 96%, not 100%, so what's wrong that caused it to lose 4%? Don't get me wrong, I know HL2 will be great, I just can't see it being THE BEST GAME EVER OMG like what this review claims. The article states that the main negative point is the shared flashlight/sprint energy bank. The original HL review was much the same in that the game is so damn good, the negative barely needs to be brought up. No game is ever going to get 100%; it's a romantic, idealistic fantasy, and thinking that because a game is a few percent off then there must be a negative side that can hope to stand up to the overwhelmingly positive isn't a clever way to consider the review.
I'm afraid HL2 will indeed be the 'Best Game Ever', but I think that's only right as its predecessor has been carrying the torch for so long. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

And the end of the day, how can you assign mere numbers to a human experience? It's the main limitation of all reviews that give a score, but a necessary evil for the most part.

I have a crazy idea.
It involves trading your nation's currency for goods from a store.
